Norfolk State University (Music)
My name is Jared Brown. I have a degree in Music Education from Norfolk State University with a Saxophone concentration. I love working with children of all ages that are eager to learn. I feel that kids need more positive role models and if I can be one of them as a tutor, that's great! I've studied saxophone for 14+ years and currently play with a corporate band. Saxophone is my focus, but I also played euphonium(baritone) at a university level and am open to teaching brass students. I hope I am able to help your kids reach the goals they set out for themselves and exceed the potential that you see in them.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been playing the saxophone for 9 years total. I have studied with Keith Gamble and Stephanie Sanders. I have studied the works of Glazunov, Heiden, Creston, and many others famous for their contributions to 20th century saxophone repertoire. These works are the foundation of saxophone playing and my study provides me with much of necessary knowledge to teach less difficult works.
I have a wealth of ensemble experience from quartets to full symphonic bands. I understand the saxophone very well as a solo instrument and as a piece of a complete sonic puzzle. I have had the opportunity to share stages with great young saxophone players at events such as HBCU National Band Directors' Consortium, Intercollegiate Music Association Conference. I was also selected to be a participant in the National Intercollegiate Band in Phoenix this past summer.
