About Farren

I have a B.S. from the University of Tennessee in Education of the Hearing Impaired and a B.A. in History. I attended Gallaudet University and have several graduate degree hours, also in education. In addition to that, I attended the Interpreter Training Program at Georgia Perimeter College.

I am a veteran teacher with 30 years experience teaching deaf children in a self-contained classroom, as well as co-teaching in a general education classroom in the areas of science, social studies, math, and language arts. I try to use hands on experiential tutoring as much as possible, emphasizing application to real life situations. I have also done extensive tutoring on a private basis and can provide references if needed.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Hard Of Hearing

I have a B.S. in Education of the Hearing Impaired and certification in the state of Georgia in this field. I have taught deaf children for 30 years.

Sign Language

I have taught deaf children for 30 years in a total communication program where I use American Sign Language on a daily basis in instruction. I have a B.S. in Education of the Hearing Impaired from the University of Tennessee and hold current certification in that field.

I attended the Interpreter Training Program at Georgia Perimeter College in 1986-1987, held a level 2 (out of 3) on the Georgia QA for many years, do freelance interpreting at a local church, and taught sign language classes for many years through the Evening at Emory program.
