Georgia Institute of Technology (Chemical Engineering)
I am an Undergraduate student at Georgia Tech, majoring in Chemical Engineering. While I like chemistry I am very passionate about biology and would love to help others learn about it. I took AP Biology and AP Calculus BC in high school and got a 5 on both. I have the most experience tutoring algebra and geometry, though. I have flexible teaching methods and if one method is not working for a student, I will try explaining the material in different ways so the student learns.
I have an open personality and encourage questions. I strongly believe in Socrates' method, which is asking the student questions that get progressively harder to help them come to the answer themselves. In this way, they not only remember the material better, but are able to reason out answers on the tests and quizzes they have in school. In high school and now college I work a lot with other people studying for tests and helping each other. At the moment I am teaching one of my friends the BC portion of the AP Calculus exam and while I am not getting paid for that, it is experience I have gained so far. I also help my two younger sisters with their assignments in school. I have tutored the past year as well which has given me valuable tutoring experience.
I am also fluent in Russian and like helping people learn the language. I am an Undergraduate student at Georgia Tech, majoring in Chemical Engineering. Viktoria is an amazing tutor! She will explain everything in detail until you understand it. She is very kind and is such a big help! She makes math so simple, even though I hate math and have always struggled with it. Definitely recommend Viktoria! And only $30 hourly rate is a bonus!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been tutoring algebra for the past two years. The students have shown good results and I have improved much in the process.
I was born in Russia and lived there for 5 years before I moved to Georgia. I go back every other year and can speak freely with my grandparents and friends who live there; they say I do not have an accent in neither Russian nor English. I also speak Russian at home with my parents and sisters and have taken Russian lessons until 11th grade for grammar and literature.
