I'm Terukimi, and I'm currently attending William's College as a Physics/CS major! Connecting with the youth through tutoring has always been a passion of mine. Since I was a freshman in high school, I have tutored elementary-age children learning addition/subtraction up to high schoolers learning AP Calculus BC. With each new student, I gained a new appreciation for teaching. Each child has their own unique propensity to learn and absorb information, and I aim to draw that passion out through specialized lesson plans and engaging practice that emphasizes problem-solving skills. Usually, I start with a broad overview of any new concepts that I plan on teaching before focusing on the detailed explanation of each concept, providing supplemental example problems throughout each explanation and expanding upon the applications/expectations for any future courses or standardized exams (usually AP exams, SAT, etc.).
I have over three years of tutoring experience in a variety of subjects. I first started by tutoring young children of family friends with basic math operations, and eventually began tutoring high-school students as I explored volunteering opportunities around my community. Specifically, through organizations such as Teen Tutor Teens, I was able to engage with youth across the county as I tutored online in both writing and physics/chemistry. Although navigating "Zoom-mediated tutoring" was difficult at first, I am now comfortable accommodating my style of teaching on an online platform. Additionally, I tutor students in my school's National Honor Society chapter. Whether face-to-face or via Zoom, I tutor students who are struggling to keep up with the pace of their class so that they can gain the confidence and skills needed to succeed academically.
With tutoring, my students' success and comfort are my number one priorities, so any suggestions or accommodations are more than welcome. Feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or wonderments, and I'll be sure to reply as soon as possible!
