Georgia Institute of Technology (Biochemistry)
I graduated from Georgia Tech this Spring with a bachelor's in Biochemistry. I received highest honors and graduated a year early. I was accepted to Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and will start in the fall. I will be available to tutor all summer because I love working with students and sharing my knowledge with others!
Chemistry is my heart; I scored 94 percentile in the nation on the ACS Organic Chemistry exam and achieved a 96% class average in Biochemistry without the curve. However, I am also qualified to help with Biology, Physics, and Math at any level of difficulty. I teach study skills with a strong influence on the ability to become self-taught, think critically, and apply knowledge to "real world" situations. I believe in dorky metaphors and like to help "unpack" intimidating concepts. Moreover, I have worked with students ages 8 to 44, so I have experience with tutoring elementary, middle, and high school students along with college students and adults. I have been told that my greatest strength is breaking down difficult material to the point where it is easy to understand.
I was a tutor for a high school's Academic Intervention program for over a year. During this time, I helped students failing two or more classes with various subjects. Most of the students I tutored struggled in math or science. I also helped coached a 6th grade Science Olympiad team this year. The events I focused on were "Anatomy & Physiology" and "Disease Detectives." My students were able to place 1st place in these events in regionals and 4th in the state middle school competition despite being the youngest group there.
I am a very enthusiastic and patient teacher. I believe I can help make the learning process more fun for you or your student. I tend to be popular among young students because of the fact that I am friendly and, as they have described, " Very chill." I am also flexible with times and will work with study groups. Feel free to contact me; I would be happy to help!
I am also very open to give advice to pre-med students or students considering a degree in science. I'd love to answer any question you or your student may have, so feel free to contact me about that, as well. I graduated from Georgia Tech this Spring with a bachelor's in Biochemistry. I am willing to be extremely flexible. Rates are the same for groups and the same for multiple hour lessons.
As soon as I got there she had thorough and very well spoken explanations for all of my questions. I learned more in my hour with her than I did all semester in a class. She makes things very easy to understand!
Jessica was great. She helped me thoroughly understand my class material, and she was also well prepared. She had helpful PowerPoints she used to explain the material to me; she is very patient and extremely organized. I would highly recommend her to anyone. I went from having no idea what my class material was about to acing my oral and written exams. Jessica made sure I understood the material and taught me how to study more efficiently.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received an "A" in the Genetics course offered at Georgia Tech Spring 2014 semester. I can also tutor Genetics on the molecular level because I received an "A" in Biochemistry I Spring 2014 semester, as well. Genetics is a frequently covered topic in many of my classes because I am in the Pre-Medicine program.
