Students and parents have complimented my positive approach, saying I break material into steps the student can understand. I think compartmentalizing is the key to learning effectively. Students may encounter blocks to learning as they tackle a new task. Overcoming these blocks is easy when the teacher can adapt material to the child's learning style and draw on a variety of teaching methods to reach the individual student.

Susan has taken Spanish II, which was challenging for my son, and made it enjoyable. Susan takes her time and makes sure that he understands the concepts, pronunciations, grammar and word usage. Susan provides feedback in a positive manner. My son now has a love for the subject and is truly engaged because of her enthusiastic delivery of the subject. My son now speaks Spanish in our home on a regular basis - showing off!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As an experienced Language Arts teacher, I have a wealth of materials to help students prepare for the ACT/SAT English tests. My perfect score on the SAT English exam was due to the exceptional coaching of my high school English teacher, and I am happy to put her knowledge to work in preparing others to master these tests.
As a retired teacher with thirty years' experience, I have a wealth of materials and knowledge to draw on in order to help students master the French language easily. In college, I earned the Degré Supérieur from the University of Paris, where I studied for one year. I received a B.A. cum laude in French from Emory, and an M.A.T. in French from Yale. My awards include two Yale University fellowships and the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Fellowship, as well as membership in Phi Sigma Iota foreign language honor society. I'm currently teaching French part-time at Emory Continuing Education.
As a retired language arts teacher, I know what students need for success in reading and writing. My students first take a diagnostic test to identify areas of weakness. We then create a program of exercises to strengthen those particular skills. This eliminates unnecessary tutorial time and focuses the student on specific areas for practice.
As a retired language arts teacher, I know what students need for success on the SAT.
My students are given a diagnostic test at our first meeting to determine their strengths and weaknesses. Using the test results, I create a plan of study tailored to the individual student. From then on, sessions focus on particular exercises that will reinforce the needed skills.
This eliminates unnecessary tutorial time (and expense!) and moves us more effectively toward the desired goal-—a higher SAT score.
A good teacher can make such a difference in a student’s life! I received a perfect score on the SAT English Achievement test due to the instruction of a wonderful teacher, and I'm happy to transmit those skills to others.
