As a Former Nurse, a Bachelor in Biology, and currently a third year medical student, I have experienced academia through perspectives of many professors and their various teaching styles. With some methods more effective than others, the ones that work best are ones that are proactive and are capable of adapting to the various learning styles of groups of students or individuals through feedback and good communication. I offer my services to help students, of any age or situation, master the Biological Sciences (such as Genetics, Biochem, Anatomy, Molecular Bio, etc.) as well as anything related to or a pre-requisite for enrollment, such as Chemistry, Psychology/Behavioral Science, HealthCare/Medicine, and any Math subject (like Algebra/Geometry), preferably before Calculus.
Six years as a Licensed Practical Nurse has allowed me to experience many fields of Medicine including Oncology, Hematology, Neuro, Post-Surgical, etc. My science background includes a Bachelors degree in Biology from Georgia Tech with some research, as well as 4 years of Basic & Clinical Sciences at Ross University School of Medicine. I won’t claim my life to be full of teaching. It was more full of learning, but it involved a great deal of tutoring of my peers during group study, and/or being required to present/explain in great detail during Anatomy Lab demonstrations and other clinical activities. I was also asked to tutor my friend's little brother for 5-6 sessions in Algebra back in 2002, after which his grade improved from a “C” to an “A”. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
