About Wes

My specialty is Classical Guitar and Electric Guitar, but I'm quite proficient with Music Theory, Counterpoint, Jazz, Drums, Voice, Sight singing, Aural Skills,Arranging, Instrumentation, Bass Guitar, and Large and small ensemble work. I currently teach for Gwinnett School of Music and the North Metro First Baptist Church School of Music. Each session is tailored to the individual and can involve worksheets, visual aids, or whatever is needed to meet the goals of the individual.

I have been teaching and performing since 1998. I graduated from Young Harris College Magna Cum Laude in 2002 with an Associate of Fine Arts in Music studying under Richard Knepp. While there, I received the Lynn Fowler Scholarship for Outstanding Achievement in Music.

After my time at Young Harris, I moved on to Georgia State University. There I studied under the world renowned Guitarist John Sutherland, who was a pupil of the great Andres Segovia, and John Houston.

I chose to move to the University of Georgia after that, where I graduated Cum Laude from the Hugh Hodgson School of Music and earned a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance under Mr. Sutherland. While in School I performed in a number of Competitions such as the Stotsenberg Competition and GMTA Auditions, and Master classes for world renowned teachers and performers such as the Italian guitar virtuoso Mateo Mela, Jason Vieaux who is the Head of the Cleveland Institute of Music Guitar Department, and one of Brazil’s most prominent guitarists Daniel Wolff to name a few. I have also been involved in furthering the guitar pedagogy in working with David Hoge and John Sutherland on some of their method books with FJH publishing. Many of my students have gone on to become guitar majors at major universities and professional musicians.
