About Gregory

I specialize in helping college and high school students improve their study habits and their understanding of chemistry. I have many years of college teaching experience including AP chemistry, general chemistry, organic chemistry, nursing chemistry, and polymer chemistry.

I take pride in helping my students master the basics, as well as the subtle points so they can do even the trickiest of test problems. I can tailor homework problems based on their lecture notes. I am good at reviewing old tests to get the student prepared for their final exam, even the ACS standardized test.

I prefer to tutor in a study room at a university, public library, or Starbucks. In-home tutoring is also possible and online tutoring is available by Skype or Google Hangouts where I can screen share my document camera to show how to solve chemistry problems in real-time. I can also make tutorial videos on most organic chemistry topics.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chemistry

I have tutored high school students for more than three years. I am also active in the Chemistry Olympiad in the area training high school students for the competition. As a professor I have taught general chemistry so I am familiar with how to prepare students for college chemistry.

Organic Chemistry

I earned my PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004. I have been teaching at the college level ever since.

One of the most knowledgeable, kind, and patient tutors I've had on this site!

I've been struggling in my O-chem class this quarter and decided to get some help using Wyzant. Thankfully I got in touch with Gregory. He not only managed to teach me so much in an hour, but he also made a course I dreaded something I enjoyed doing. The vast amount of knowledge he has on the topic surprised me, and every question I seemed to ask him had an answer to it. In the short amount of tim
