My name is Janice and I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and extend you the opportunity to have me assist you with your individualized tutoring needs. Whether you require tutoring help for your child, or you are an adult in need of academic support to supplement or advance your knowledge to its full potential, I have the skills and expertise to evaluate and create a learning plan that will facilitate the student’s specific needs with the objective of reaching their optimum learning potential under my tutelage. I have over 15 years experience in tutoring children and adults in a variety of subjects in levels Pre-K through College. I have been a volunteer in the "Reading is Fundamental" program and also the "Project Literacy" program for adults. I specialize in helping children and adults with mild Learning Disabilities by assisting them in overcoming and accommodating their specific deficits to reach their full learning potential and academic goals. Because I employ a variety of techniques that are specifically designed to academically support and assist each student and utilize an individual learning plan based upon the student’s needs, I have a history of great success in tutoring all students including, advanced placement, accelerated learners, learning disabled and mainstream students alike.
Over the past 13 years in the Cobb/Cherokee County areas, I have successfully supported my student’s academic needs through the implementation of my individualized tutoring practices. I have worked in concert with their "in school" teachers and assisted them in facilitating their academics, by utilizing my tutoring methods with the General/Special Education curriculums or additionally if applicable, in conjunction with the student’s IEP accommodations.
With regard to specialization for Learning Disabilities; I have experience in tutoring children and adults at all academic levels with ADHD and mild Learning Disabilities like Dyslexia. Working with their teachers and integrating their IEP accommodations into my tutoring, I supplement my high school student’s studies in their co-taught classes through my individualized learning plans, to assist them to reach their highest academic potential. Also, as a result of small group classes now being limited in the school system and because the formative years are where the children need the most help and support to obtain a strong academic foundation for their future studies, I have also utilized similar techniques and achieved equal success in tutoring my primary and middle school students with Learning Disabilities.
I am very patient, understanding and help my students learn in an individualized format that they can absorb and potentially embed into their long term memory to process and retain for future success in their academics. If it is your objective to engage a tutor for your child or yourself with the expertise, patience and kindness that is required to achieve your goals and reach your academic potential, then please contact me at your earliest convenience. It would be my pleasure to speak with you, discuss your individual tutoring needs and determine if we are a good fit for one another. Thank you so much for your time and consideration of me in this very important role as tutor, I look forward to assisting you in reaching the optimum potential for the academic success that you desire.

First of all, for the parents who debate if their child should be tested for a learning disability, I encourage you to research and look into it. I was skeptical, but I had to recognize the symptoms, especially when I noticed my son giving up, hiding failing graded papers, just struggling. If that is your child, understand that it isn't a negative label, nor does the school make them feel inadequate. Prior to Janice's tutoring assistance, my son has struggled academically since Kindergarten. He has ALWAYS had issues with reading comprehension more than anything, which is the one area that applies to all areas of academics. Every year, when my son takes the CRCT, he barely passes in the comprehension area. I couldn't get him to read, and when I did, he would read, and read, and not know what he had just read. The first part of the year, he was failing a few subjects, and I knew (if he passed to 6th grade) he wasn't going to make it in middle school with more responsibilities. Janice has been a tremendous blessing in my family's life. From day one, she carefully zoned in on my son's specific needs. She encouraged me to get him tested for learning disabilities based on the trouble he was having academically, but more so because of how the accommodations she was incorporating through his tutoring sessions were improving his skills. She guided me every step of the way, even accompanying me to his IEP meetings to ensure the school was doing everything on their end to set my son up for success. The teacher, school psychologist and special education department performed thorough testing with my son over a period of a few weeks. My son was diagnosed with a disability with his working memory. He is a very intelligent young boy, but just has a different learning style. Last week I received his progress report, and he now has all A's and B's! I used to ask him what he learned in school, and he would give me brief descriptions, never details. Now, for the first time, he is actually telling me. He was just telling me about immigrants and immigration, the Great Depression and the stock market crash, the roaring 20's. I could not believe my ears. I asked him what he learned in science, and he's telling me about matter and mass. He was struggling in math in the earlier part of the year, because he has trouble remembering the sequences of steps. Now, he brings me his homework to check, and he is explaining the steps to me. He has a whole new level of confidence and we could not be happier with his progress. I hope this review helps those parents who are on the fence about having your child tested. It makes a world of a difference, and can really make or break your child's confidence.
My kids have made a lot of progress with their writing and comprehension skills since Ms. Janice began tutoring them 2 months ago.
She is pleasant, very patient, goal-oriented and knows a lot about educating children. Her expertise and insight into helping my son improve his handwriting has been remarkable.
Ms. Janice is a "awesome tutor", she's always on time and prepared to teach my son's lessons. My son is feeling confidence now and reading new words.Trying to sound them out on his own. We will continue with tutoring lessons to boost his learning skills.
My daughter was very excited and is encourage that with hard work and instruction from Janice she will be able to pass the History part of the GHGT. She felt very good after reviewing the materials with Janice.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have over 20 years of experience in tutoring children, teens and adults in Reading. I also participated for many years in volunteering for the "Reading Is Fundamental" and "Project Literacy" programs which help children and adults learn to read. I am very patient with my students and implement plans to help them learn by accommodating each student’s individual needs. I have also worked with many students in all age groups that had mild learning disabilities which delayed or impeded their reading process. Many of the students I have worked with had IEP accommodations that required me to apply specific techniques based upon their individual needs. In some cases it was required that I read to them, so that they could absorb the information and focus on remembering and comprehending what was necessary, rather than labor over reading themselves. Once they were able to process and retain the information then they were supported by me to go over it again and read over it themselves to enhance and improve their own reading skills. I work closely with each student's teachers in implementing an individual plan with specific modalities and techniques that are most appropriate for how each of my students need to learn. I have been very successful in helping all my students to learn to read or increase their reading proficiency and comprehension. Participating in such an important foundational part of each of my student’s lives by helping my students to read is a blessing to me. It brings me great joy in knowing that I have been instrumental in seeing each of my students grow to their full potential and success in their reading and comprehension skills.
