In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am completely familiar with, and have studied at great length, Christianity. The prior statement includes, but is not limited to, a few examples. Gnosticism, Protestantism, Martin Luther, Church canon, the apocrypha, evangelicalism, Pentecostalism. I have taught comparative religious courses to middle school students for many years (11). I have an honor's degree in history and part of the requirements were religious studies.
I took the Praxis tests in 1994 and later in 2001 when seeking a NC license to teach. I passed all tests without a retake. On the content portion, I scored a nearly perfect score (2001). I also had to submit a handwritten lesson plan and I did well on that.
I took and passed speeches in High School and college. In my time at Education, Training and resources, I spoke to students and civic groups as often as three times per week. I have delivered commencement exercises four times.
As part of my 14 years of teaching experience in Social Studies, I have taught the 5 most important eastern and western religions, as well as common factors of all. I earned a BS degree in Social Studies and that included courses on comparative religions.
Ive been a certified teacher for 18 years. I currently hold certification in social studies for both North Carolina and Georgia for grades 4-8 in GA and grades 6-12 in NC. Additionally, I have taught in the Job Corps system, working with adult students.
