Mr. L. grew up in Orlando, Florida. After graduating from high school, he joined the Marine Corps where he learned the vital principle of self-discipline. He returned from military service and earned a bachelors degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from The University of South Florida. It was during this time that he became interested in Ecology and the Environmental Sciences.
Having an adventurous nature and a desire to travel, Mr. L. joined the Peace Corps and was assigned to teach math & science at Tonga High School in the South Pacific. He eventually switched to VISTA and went to American Samoa where he worked for two years as a Diver/Biologist at the Office of Marine & Wildlife Resources in Pago Pago. He later earned a masters degree in science education/curriculum & instruction from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He then returned to American Samoa and developed the curricula for and taught Biology I & II, Marine Biology, Microbiology, Ecology (Environmental Studies), and Human Anatomy & Physiology at the American Samoa Community College. He also established and was the advisor to the Ecology Club, served on the Faculty Senate and several committees, and participated in the Intramural Sports Program. As advisor to the Ecology Club, Mr. L. organized many environmentally related activities and community projects to support the local ecosystems’continuity.
After residing for sixteen years in American Samoa, Mr. L. returned to the mainland United States and worked as a Wildlife Biologist and Permit Coordinator for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Coastal Resources Division (CRD). One of his major responsibilities at DNR was the enforcement of the Georgia Coastal Marshlands and Shore Protection Acts.
In 1998 Mr. L. began his own business as an Environmental Consultant. His business, Southeastern Environmental Associates, flourished until the 2008 economic recession began to hinder the business.
Mr. L. is an avid lover of nature and an environmentalist. He is a highly motivated individual who is progressive, aggressive, and people oriented. He strongly believes in the importance of education and awareness of the global population to instill knowledge of and a desire to protect and nurture our delicate home known as the planet “Earth”. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am already certified in ESL by completing a 140 hour course with a final grade of 98. I would be glad to submit a copy of my certification if necessary.
