I am Kim, and I want to thank you for viewing my profile and allowing me the opportunity to become your tutor. I have worked in various school systems for 9 years, and have worked in grades pre-k through 12. I also worked as a tutor for Sylvan Learning Center for two years. During that time I taught science, reading and math. I love working with children, and helping them succeed not only in the academic arena but in life as well.
In my tutoring sessions, I like to use various approaches when presenting material. This is because students learn differently, and at different paces. In order to get a base line of where I need to start, I ask the student a few questions to see if there are gaps of information that I need to fill. Once that has been established, I start the sessions. In my sessions, I will teach studying skills, and and give the student tools on how to organize their material.
Looking foward to seeing you soon.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Over the last few years I have been working with students with autism. I have been trained in using ABA with these students as well. Last year, I completed my first ABA certification course. I understand what it takes to work with students with special needs, and my compassion will help them succeed.
I have taught middle grades science (4-8) in the public school setting. During that time I also taught social studies. I have a background in science and love to show students why and how science can be fun. I have also taught elementary reading and math at Sylvan Learning Center.
As a teacher with the Sylvan Learning Center, I taught reading to students in grades kindergarten through eight. During these sessions I taught my students the fundamentals to reading. These included letter sounds, letter recognition, and phonics.
