My name is Steven T. I am a UGA graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and an Associate's Degree in Arabic from Defense Language Institute. I have tutored ages ranging from kindergarten (at Oglethorpe Elementary) to college undergrads (for UGA and Athens Tech). I have helped translate for Athens Clarke County Parent teacher conferences. I have years of real world experience including working as a telemarketer taking calls in both Spanish and English. I was promoted to supervisor at that job because of my performance. I have worked as a manager of a kitchen where the majority of the cooks spoke Spanish. I am able to tutor/teach "book Spanish" and "street Spanish."
My approach to tutoring depends highly upon the need of the student. If the student requires formal knowledge for a classroom setting, then lessons would revolve around vocabulary building and verb conjugations. Practice makes perfect and drills will be required to build a strong foundation knowledge of tenses, moods, morphemes and vocabulary. However, if the student requires conversational skills then sessions will revolve more around pronunciation, production, and listening skills. Lastly, if cultural studies are needed, music, food, customs, and traditions (regional and national) will be studied. Regardless of the student's need, I can develop a lesson plan suited to meet his or her needs.
My DLPT scores are as follows:
Modern Standard Arabic 2/3
Yemeni Arabic 2
Levantine Arabic 2
Brazilian Portuguese 1+/2 My name is Steven T. I am a UGA graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and an Associate's Degree in Arabic from Defense Language Institute. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
