About Patricia

I have taught/tutored adult learners and children of various ages for the past 11 years. I have experience in GED preparation CRCT test preparation, and various subjects in both primary and secondary schools. I research to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in education and learning methods. I enjoy tutoring because of the opportunity it gives to adapt the lessons to closely meet the students' particular needs and learning style. I also include a "learning is fun attitude" and incorporate activities and games into my sessions. I have adapted various subjects and curriculum to the preferences and needs of student with learning disabilities or other challenges. I also enjoy the challenge of finding the "key" to unlock inspiration and a desire to learn.

I have tutored students in the areas of: reading, writing skills, literature, mathematics, science, sociology, and study skills. I have also tutored children with three different companies under the "No Child Left behind Act". I was the adult literacy director and adult literacy specialist for the GED program in Butts County through Griffin Technical College. I enjoy working with both adults and children. Tutoring provides a eminent level of personal satisfaction for myself as well.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Aspergers

I have a Master's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation. I currently teach vocational/behavioral classes to students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I have worked with individuals with ASD and PDD for over 30 years in different capacities. I use a variety of instructional methods; depending on functional limitations and other diagnoses, i.e. ADD, OCD, depression. Every person is different and requires individualized instruction. Providing frequent rest breaks, using colored overlays or colored paper, large print material or audio material, are a few of the methods that I use to teach.
