Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra in the middle and high school setting. I enjoy teaching Algebra and I know how to present the topic in an nonthreatening and easy to follow manner.

Algebra 2

I have tutored several Algebra 2 students. I enjoyed helping them discover the tricks to writing equations and solving problems. I'd love to help your student feel confident about Algebra 2.

ASVAB

I served in the Navy for 6 years and have tutored several students in preparation for taking the ASVAB.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been a school teacher for the last 22 years. I have taught all the core elementary subjects multiple times. In addition to my experience as a formal school teacher, I have worked as a tutor for the last 3 school years, assisting elementary students in all subjects.

GED

I have tutored many students in GED preparation.

Geometry

I enjoy tutoring students in Geometry. For the past several years, I have helped tutor students with math subjects such as geometry, algebra, and trigonometry. I recently tutored a young lady in Geometry and her grades have improved from D's to A's and B's and her frustration level is much lower. I believe I know how to present the topic in an nonthreatening and easy to follow manner

Physics

I tutor in physics by first teaching strategies for approaching it, and then teaching concepts, with the assistance of practice questions, tests and video segments. I usually conclude with a targeted review of concepts with which the student struggled during the process. I have ample knowledge of physics concepts and testing strategies, which help to improve the confidence and scores of the students I tutor.

Study Skills

I have been a public school educator for 22 years and have taught, tutored, or mentored in grades-K-12 at some point in my career. My wealth of experience enables me to relate to a wide range of students in an easy to follow manner.

I am naturally organized so I can help students see the big picture and grasp an understanding for what needs to be done first, next, and so on. Studying for a test is different than studying for understanding or studying in order to master a skill. Again, the key is to be able to see the big picture and break the process down in order to achieve success

Trigonometry

I having been tutoring and teaching students in Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and the SAT for the past 22 years. I love math and I am able to relate complex material in a simple to explain format.Trig has myriad applications in science: it's important. A solid foundation of the basics is vital. Trigonometry is basically the mathematical measurement of shapes and the angles that form them. Terms like tangents, sine, and cosines are concepts that must be mastered in order to move forward. As "trig" progresses, then the relationships between these terms, trig identities, and unit circle, become even more fundamental and important to an understanding of graphing and transformations.
