My focus when teaching was primarily with middle school students and subjects. As an SEC teacher I successfully worked with students having a variety of learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, autism, dyslexia, OHI, or other issues. My focus now as a retired teacher is to help students struggling academically to regain lost ground.

I have a Master's in Special Education. I use a multi-sensory approach to aid in students recovering that lost ground. Most dyslexic students start falling through the cracks between elementary and middle school and it becomes much more pronounced in middle school. The studies show that the earlier the intervention occurs the better the chance of actually catching up in their reading, writing, and spelling skills. However, it is not a fast process as early skills must be repeated to some degree. All students should take a pre-assessment or demonstrate the desire to improve before being accepted to assure that they are ready and able to learn the material.

All of my teaching experience has been with special needs populations. Current concentration and focus is on dyslexic readers. I have patience, persistence, and will persevere to help students learn.

Tutoring openings are open to some flexibility in the summers. Sessions will be 30 to 60 minutes depending on the students ability to focus with one on one tutoring for dyslexia.
