Experienced tutor with many years of classroom experience. As a high school English teacher for many years, I was able to hone my skills but quickly realized that my gift is to work one-on-one, dedicating myself to student success in what it takes to be successful. For this reason, I gained a Masters degree in Education with emphasis in Guidance and Counseling and a Specialist degree toward my doctorate with degree in Guidance and Counseling. I am able to integrate my counseling background toward finding the exact "prescription" for each learner. I currently am Director of Education at a private college and have tutoring opportunities most evenings as well as weekends.
Tutoring qualities include the connection made with the learner, discovering best method of learning and being able to capitalize on this style to insure investment by the learner. I have had years of experience as well as study in counseling coursework to discover how this best can be achieved. I have had experience in English, ESL, Grammar, Reading and Writing in both teaching and tutoring. Relating to each learner's individual needs and bringing a successful "plan of action" to complement learning style is the pivotal point toward success. Continuing to re-evaluate is critical to insure success is being met, not only in the lessons but from the learner's perspective, including self-esteem. Motivational techniques are also brought forward to insure continued learning occurs past the tutoring. This brings a global opportunity for the learner to bring him or herself to continue the learning process between sessions. Learning should not stop when the tutoring has ended. It is a continuing opportunity for the learner to gain habitual learning opportunities through goal-setting and action plans, owning his or her pathway toward success.
I encourage you to reach out for a consultation to explore opportunities for success. I look forward to bringing a new level of achievement in studies while recognizing the learner's resources within him or herself to bring an expanded horizon of learning. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught college coursework in Career Development and have worked as a high school counselor in developing plans for students to gain vocational training. I also was Employment Assistance Coordinator with a private college as well as Student Success Manager with another college. In all of these areas, I counseled students toward success in their careers
