In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked for fifteen years in Maryland and Pennsylvania with children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. Many of my students score above average on the standardized test. I worked using the student Individualized Educational Programs to plan my strategies. I often let my students pick out a code word that helps them to remember the task they need to be working on at a specific time. I believe in building a child's confidence so they can overcome any challenge.

My strategies are on a case by case basis. I was called in by the William Penn School District to do an In-Home school program for an Asperger student who could not function in a classroom environment. I worked using the student Individualized Educational Programs to plan my strategies.
I have tutored several students over the years with dyslexia. Many students were very frustrated and had given up in school. Building motivation and confidence are key for these students. Some of my strategies include audio tapes, computers and tablets. The use of different color text has also been helpful with these students.
I was a homeschool parent for my son from 4th grade to 11th grade. So I spent my summers getting familiar with his subjects for the next grade level. He was also a successful working actor during the entire time. He has graduated from high school and just finished his freshmen year at a prestigious four-year college in California.
