Retired: Dekalb County Schools
Reading Specialist and Language Arts teacher

I am an empty nester, retiree and an eager advocate of education and academic preparation. Since leaving full time teaching in 2000. I have stayed connected to the academic world by way of substitute teaching, tutoring and coaching students as they prepare for state mandated exams and other assessments. I have more than thirty years of providing direct instructions and tutorial services to students from elementary school to college at all levels of academic readiness. I am an active, determined, dedicated and awe-inspiring senior who loves teaching and learning and tutoring and reading and writing and all things educational. Further, I am computer savvy, well read, well traveled and well trained.

My last full time teaching job was in 2011. I tutored and taught language arts and reading related skills to 9th graders at Coretta Scott King Young Women's Leadership Academy. While at CSK, my students received the distinguished honor of having the highest achievement scores on the state mandated End of Course Test than any group in the academy. Also, In one of my tutoring positions~~Benjamin E. Mays High School: 2008~~, in which I helped prepare juniors and seniors for high school exit exams, my students received Atlanta Public Schools top scores. I work very hard to see that my students are successful, and their success is very personal to me. For this reason, I monitor our instructional time very closely and give frequent feedback in a timely manner. I am available for tutoring anytime after 10 0'clock week days and will do weekends. For my services, I charge $50.00 an hour for online tutoring and $65.00 if I have to leave home.

I understand (at many levels) the significance of what I do, and the far reaching consequences of what the learner does, so I am driven to do my work well. Teaching /tutoring. is not just my work; it is also my pleasure and my passion.

Often, I find that my passion for learning and the acquisition of knowledge has a contagious effect on students, and their aspirations have an equally motivational effect on me. This is what I most especially appreciate about my role as an educator, and I feel privileged to be a part of such a dynamic process. Students who contact me can be certain and confident that I will do all that I can to ensure that their learning experience is one that they value; now and in the future
