About Michelle

I am a mother of three. Two of my children have learning disabilities. My oldest is 26 years old and my youngest is 14 years old. I have real life experience teaching children with learning deficits. I also am an educational advocate and advocate for children throughout the United States. Many children with learning deficits are not receiving an appropriate education in school. Understanding how the child learns is critical in knowing how to educate a child. I have been successful in teaching my children in the areas where they had deficits. I also have taught others how to teach their children as well. As an educational advocate I am familiar with reading and analyzing comprehensive psychological evaluations done by the school and private psychologists. I help write and develop goals in IEP's meetings as well.

I have 10 year of experience in tutoring children in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. My oldest and youngest children both had reading deficits. They both have overcome these deficits. My oldest is now working in law enforcement. He earned a degree in Criminal Justice. My youngest child is now an avid reader. She wants to become a writer when she grows up. She is planning on majoring in journalism in college.

I am available to tutor in your home or mine.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Reading

I have over 17 years of experience teaching children, and adults reading. My experience ranges from teaching basic reading skills using phonics to be able to make inferences and predictions in text.

Reading affects all subjects so reading comprehension is critical in order to be successful in school.

I am an educational advocate for children with IEP's in the public school system. My business was officially started in 2013. However, I have been advocating prior to starting my business.

Nearly all of my existing clients have some sort of reading deficit. Thereby, affecting them in multiple academic areas. Although, they still have a reading deficit. They have progressed significantly from where they started from. For example, I had a client who was in the 5 grade and was reading on a 1st grade level for reading comprehension. After working with this student their reading level increased by 4 grade levels. This particular student had multiple deficits in reading. Their additional reading deficits were also in rate and fluency.

I enjoy teaching students to read. Once they are taught the skill to read and they can understand what they are reading their self-esteem and confidence raises tremendously.

Special Needs

I am an educational advocate and I advocate for special needs children in the public school system through out the United States. I also have taught my own children who have multiple learning disabilities. I have been advocating for my children for 15 years.

In addition, I work specifically family with special needs children. I help them develop educational goals and objectives for their children. I monitor each child's progress. I make the appropriate changes to their educational goals.

Study Skills

I have over 15 years of experience helping children develop good study skills so they can be successful in school. I have two children with learning disabilities so I understand the importance of teaching children study skills.

I am an educational advocate and I advocate for special needs children in the public school system through out the United States. As an educational advocate I work with parents to make sure they can assist their children with their assignments by breaking the assignments into manageable chunks.
