Mrs. Shelia is a great tutor. She gave me practice test to do and after we went over them and discussed every question I missed. She's very easy to understand, she's sweet, and really takes time answering any questions you may have. She will not move on to the next problem until you fully understand the concept. Mrs. Shelia is a great tutor I'm so thankful for her.

Kierra, thank you for your kind comments! It is always wonderful to have serious, committed, and hard working students like you! It makes being a tutor fun and rewarding! I know you will reach your goals on this exam and beyond!

Shelia is a great all around tutor, and upon mentioning her name to people that I know, they all had positive things to say about her. She is helping my daughter with specific math concepts that she has been struggling with.

Shelia is an excellent tutor who's passionate about helping her student. Great results in a short amount of time. Would definitely recommend her to anyone who is trying to improve their ACT/SAT scores.

My daughter has improved in Algebra significantly since she started tutoring. Shelia goes above and beyond with helping my daughter to understand each lesson and doesn't move on until she does. I would recommend Shelia to anyone that is in need of not just a tutor but one that really cares. Shelia truly has been a blessing to our family.

Your daughter is the type of student every tutor wants! She is very motivated, quick to catch on and extremely mature. It is my pleasure to help her conquer algebra!!

Shelia is easy to work with as far as scheduling the sessions and is very encouraging in her feedback. My son likes her and enjoys working with her. I would definitely recommend Shelia as a tutor!

Your son is a great student to work with and I am very excited to see how well he will do on his SAT exam!!

I recently found Sheila through this website and was hesitant at first to even use a tutor. I learn best through hands-on instruction, memorization and I am very picky about who I learn from when it comes to my grades! However, when I took my first session, I knew it was meant to be. Working with Mrs. Sheila is great!I feel very comfortable, and I can tell she knows what she is talking about. Also learning that her children were home-schooled and very successful (grades, college) made me realize that her help could benefit me in a big way!

You can tell she has the experience, teaching homeschool etc. and Mrs. Shelia will boost your confidence when you see that the tough math questions are possible in under one minute instead of my usual 3 or skipping. Strategy is also a key ingredient to almost anything you work on, and she not only works the problems out but shows you several different ways to solve each individual question. I can definitely tell a difference from when I was working on my own to when I got a tutor. I have improved my focus, knowledge, and overall skills! I am excited to see where all of this hard work will get me and I owe a ton of my success to Sheila!

Ciaran, thank you for such a thoughtful feedback! Ciaran is the type of student every tutor wants. She is diligent, hard working, and highly motivated. I know she will be successful in anything she pursues!!

Our first session with Shelia went very well. My son really appreciated Shelia's patience with him during the lesson. He really thinks her methods will help him gain better scores on the SAT. Thanks Shelia.

Cameron is doing a great job of applying the techniques I am teaching him. I expect he will do well on the SAT and at whatever he chooses for to pursue in college and life! Thank you for the opportunity to help him prepare for the SAT!

Shelia is as my son put it "an awesome tutor". He really felt confident that she would be able to help him improve his study skills and understanding of all subjects. Thanks for a great first encounter. We look forward to all your future lessons and support.

Shelia continues to provide excellent tutoring sessions. As a result my son has been successful in maintaining great averages in all subjects. Thanks Shelia for all you do.

Shelia S. was very accommodating in her schedule. She was very helpful with understanding how SAT math questions were missed on the practice test. We have scheduled several more sessions. Would recommend Shelia for any student, especially those seeking help in math, SAT math prep.

I found guidance, friendship, discipline and love, everything, in one person. And that person is (Shelia S.). I also have to thank her for going out of her way to come and meet me at the library to pick a book that was best suitable for me.

It has been a pleasure to meet you and work with you Bilal. I'm happy to help you reach your goals! Continue to work hard and I am confident you will get there!

The tutor was a blessing and understanding to my unique situation. Mrs. Sheila was professional and very helpful in my math studies. I look forward to working with her in future studies with my children also.

It was a joy to meet and work with you Lateasa! I look forward to working with you and your children!! Blessings!

I needed a tutor asap and Sheila was willing to help my son out at last minute to help him prepare for his upcoming SAT test. Sheila went out of her way get started with him right away and has been very helpful! I am so happy we found her on WyzAnt she has been a blessing!!

Sheila, in one session, helped my son have the confidence to work through math problems in the SAT book by her positive comments and support. After the session was over he mentioned there were several things he was not aware of on the SAT that proved to be helpful in him getting the right answers on a practice test he took in critical reading. After the tools she used to help him better understand the ETS and how it is written, he scored 23 out of 25 correct on the critical reading. He usually did not even attempt to finish an assignment like that before he knew what tools he could use to work his way through it more efficiently. That says a great deal about how much she cares about helping her students.

I'm so happy to have had a small part in helping your son reach his goal & be accepted into the college he wants to go to! It was a pleasure to meet you all & work with your children!

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have tutored several students in SAT (ACT) preparation over the past 3 or so years. I have worked one on one with students at all levels of academic skill. I specialize in SAT prep including math, writing and reading. I designed a one semester SAT prep class which I have taught several times.

My strength as a tutor is that I am able to work with students, assess the issues they are having in learning the material, and then present the material in such a manner that they are able to learn it.

I worked as a CPA for about 10 years, then left the workplace to home educate my children. I tutored my own children in all their subjects from K-5 through 8th grade. I tutor several students in math and other subjects including SAT Prep, English, grammar, science, geography and history.

The science portion of the ACT does not necessarily test a student's science knowledge (although having a strong science knowledge base will be most helpful on the exam), but according to the ACT test writers, the exam tests your ability to:

1. Recognize and understand the basic features of, and concepts related to, the provided information

2. Examine critically the relationship between the information provided and the conclusions drawn or hypotheses developed

3. Generalize from given information and draw conclusions, gain new information, or make predictions

Therefore preparation and coaching for the science portion of the exam must focus on these skills, and that is exactly what I do as an ACT science prep tutor.

I have taught Algebra 1 to several students in a small class setting as well as one on one tutoring. My strength as a tutor is that I am able to work with students, assess the issues they are having in learning the material, and then present the material in such a manner that they are able to learn it.

I have tutored several students in advanced algebra including college algebra. I will be teaching a small class Algebra 2 in the Fall 2013. I have taught & tutored in elementary subjects including math, language arts, reading, science and social studies/history for several years.

Having worked towards an education degree for three years before switching to an accounting major, I studied education methods and techniques. I understand that teachers must teach their subjects in such a manner that the majority of their 15-30+students can learn it. They have very little time to assess students individually, and even less time to adjust their teaching methods based on that assessment. As an elementary tutor, I am able to assess a student while explaining the subject matter to them. I work toward understanding the challenges and difficulties that are interfering with their learning. At that point, I can customize the teaching method to the needs of the child. I understand the necessity of customized one on one education designed to meet the needs of the student.

Elementary math is in many ways the most important math. It's like the cornerstone of a building. If it is not set properly, it is very difficult to build a study structure on top of it. Elementary math gives students the tools they need to learn higher math.

The key to teaching elementary science, is to teach the elementary child.

Although a PhD in chemistry or physics could be described as a specialist in the subject, that does not mean that he or she would be able to teach an elementary student.

I have tutored both children & adults & would love to help you succeed on the GED exam!

I have found that adults are wonderful students! Adult students are quick to understand what they need help with and are not reluctant to ask. Tutoring sessions are highly efficient and productive.

I have taught prealgebra to several students both in a small class setting and in a tutoring environment. Prealgebra is a fun math to teach because it takes all the foundational tools that students have acquired and shows the students who those tools are used to solve real life problems. In teaching math, my philosophy is to help the student understand the why so that he / she will be able to remember the what (the process or steps).

I have tutored several students in PSAT & SAT preparation over the past 3 or so years. I have worked one on one with students at all levels of academic skill. I specialize in PSAT / SAT prep including math, writing and reading. I designed a one semester SAT prep class which I have taught several times.

The math problems on the PSAT and the SAT do not use very difficult math concepts. It's just that the math concepts are presented in a manner that is significantly different from what most students have previously seen. I enjoy helping students learn how to approach the various type of math problems they encounter on the PSAT and SAT exams.

The SAT essay is challenging because of the time limitation. However, there are several strategies and techniques that when applied can be sure to improve a student's score. Working on these concepts with students is one of my favorite area of SAT prep tutoring.

I have a lot of experience with test preparation. The SSAT is in many ways like the SAT college entrance exam. I have tutored many students for the SAT and have also designed a class for the SAT which I have taught numerous times to many students. I look forward to applying my test preparation skills to helping your student gain entry to the school of your choice!

As a CPA with a high GPA in college I have personally learned effective study skills.

As a tutor and home school teacher with 13 years experience, I have taught and tutored numerous students in various subjects. One of the first areas I work on with students is improving their study skills. Study skills include time management, organization, memorization techniques, problem solving, and critical thinking. By learning to manage and improve study skills, students not only see their grades in school improve, but also their personal enjoyment of the learning process.
