Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I teach students with Attention Deficit Disorders and Attention Deficit Disorder by teaching skills how to become organized, being able to complete task in a given time, and some self-correcting behaviors on staying focused. I work with students individually and in small groups. When working with the students I make sure they are given extended time to complete their task and take frequent breaks. I make sure that the students understand the task directs and the assignments to be completed. I make sure to break down the task into manageable parts so the student will complete the assignments.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified Special Education teacher. I have a Georgia teacher license in Special Education General Curriculum in the areas of Language Arts K-8, Math K-8, and Social Sciences K-8. I have worked with students and teachers in grades K-5 general education classrooms. I have co-taught reading and math in grades K-5. I specialize in remediating students that are below grade level and work with special education students that are in the general education classrooms so that they have access to the general curriculum.

Phonics

I teach phonics to help develop reading and writing skills by teaching students how to hear and identify sounds of letter. Phonics teaches new words and how to decode sounds into words to become an effective reader. I work with students individually and in small groups in learning vowels and consonants. I teach students how to blend letters to make words, I teach students sight words, and multi-syllabic words. I teach students how to identify beginning, middle, and ending sounds in words. I teach students how to read using choral reading of passages on each students grade level. This also helps student learn how to comprehend.

Special Needs

I have worked over eight years with elementary students with disabilities that receive services or have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in the areas of Significantly Developmentally Delayed, Specific Learning Disabilities, Other Health Impaired, Mild Intellectual Disabilities, Emotional Behavior Disorder, ADHD, and ADD. I work with the students that have deficits in all subject areas that cause them to have difficulty in the general education setting. I work with students on individual and small group basis.
