Mrs. Geraldine was great with Corban. I liked that she got down on his level and played on the floor while teaching him. He was very excited after the lesson and happy to know she'll be back next week. Fabulous!
I was looking for a tutor to help my son get his grades up in Social Studies and Science. Geraldine contacted me and from the first day my son loved her. She is very patient and knows how to explain things to kids. My son got his grades up with just a few lessons with her. She is very sweet and helpful. Brought pictures and other info about the subjects my son had to study about, and helped him out with reading as well. Thanks to her he was able to feel more confident.
Very happy with her.
I hit the jackpot with Geraldine. My daughter needed help with letter recognition and reading. She attended Kindergarten in Germany and was behind the other 1st graders in the mentioned areas when school began. Geraldine came to the rescue. Through all kinds of different techniques such as flash cards, games, books, and even cheers with pom-poms, Geraldine made terrific progress with my daughter. On top of that, Geraldine is extremely polite and professional. She provided a summary/review of each lesson so that I know exactly what was accomplished in each lasson and the way ahead. I highly recommend this tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to teach levels K-6th (Elementary) because of my college credits and extensive work with children. I owned an educational childcare center in Atlanta and am currently teaching reading readiness to pre-school children.
My background with Family and Children's Services makes me want to motivate and encourage children to do their best and realize their full potential. I am in tune with the fact that we all have different learning styles and that is one of the things I look for in my students and classes. I like to gear the challenge to the individual child even if I am teaching a class of many children in order to give confidence and self-esteem to each child.
Because I write children's books, I am delighted to help children learn to read. Reading sets the bar for all other academics.
I just completed a tutoring job with a wonderful student from Saudi. It was very rewarding for both of us. I have all the information and resources to teach English as a second language.
I started teaching phonics to my children and then taught at my educational child care center in Atlanta for 6 years. I have recently developed a reading readiness enrichment program which I have sold for the past 6 years to centers as an hourly class.I have also tutored first graders in phonics as the key to reading.
My theory for reading is first capital letters and then lower case, but at the same time, I teach phonics and use great educational, including electronic, resources.
I had two quarters in college and made A and A plus; plus I have spoken in public for Family and Children's Services, as well as performing as a vocalist. I think I would have a lot to offer a student in confidence as well as writing speeches, as I write and publish children's books.
I teach reading by starting with the basics of alphabet, upper and lower case letters, as well as phonics, using an electronic word whammer. I also use a lot of hands-on tactile items, as well as rhyming and nonrhyming books to be read by the student by filling in words until the whole book is accomplished. I also use sight words that are expected in kindergarten and first grade. I write children's books and am so very interested in helping children learn to read!
I also did some writing in my job for the State. Some of my work, which was intended for the local office, found its way up to the State level.
Writing is a joy to me!
