I have taught special education for the past 22 years in the state of Georgia in the public school systems. Because of this experience, I have taught reading and language arts and math skills to every student that I have been in contact with. My experience has been spread evenly across the grade levels, with 11 years of teaching at the elementary level, 6 years teaching at the middle school level and 5 years of teaching at the high school level. While teaching high school students, I was assigned to co-teach in Biology classes. During the 2009-2010 school year, I completed a Reading Endorsement Program which enhances my ability to teach reading and writing skills to all grade levels of students as well as adults.
During the past five years of my teaching career, I have also worked with numerous hospital and home bound students. The assignments were given to me by their teachers and it was my responsibility to get the work to the student and then return the assignments to the teachers for grading. We were able to prepare for tests as well as administer testing when needed to accommodate the needs of the student at the time. These students had assignments in all subject areas, therefore, I was assisting them with all of the curriculum that they were assigned. Hello,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with students with ADD and ADHD for over 19 years in Special Education. I have used various strategies and teaching methods to address their specific learning styles. The students have ranged in age from Kindergarten through College Freshmen, that were diagnosed with either ADD and/or ADHD.
I have taught special education in Georgia for the past 20 years. I have worked with all age groups and grade levels of students with autism, from K-12, as well as in the public work force, as a job coach for autistic individuals.
Of the 16 plus years of teaching, 6 years of my career have been at the elementary level. I taught a self-contained special education class as well as worked as a resource teacher, where students would come to my class for additional assistance in reading, math, and language arts. As a special education teacher, especially when teaching a self-contained classroom, all of the subject areas were taught, including science and social studies. So, not only were the students needs met in reading, math and language arts, but all across the curriculum.
Throughout my 16 plus years as a special education teacher, I have taught reading across the curriculum. Many of my students who were below grade level in reading had actually missed the phonics instruction when they were in elementary school. Many students who have difficulty spelling, also have trouble understanding letter sounds and blends. It has not been uncommon, even in high school to find students who still need instructional assistance in phonics.
For the past 16 years, I have taught special education in Georgia's public schools. I have taught all grade levels and all exceptionalities. The past 5 years have been at the high school level and most of that instructional time has been spent being the co-teacher in one of the content area classrooms. I have also taught students with severe, moderate and mild intellectual disabilities, grades K - 12.
As a parent, both of my sons have learning disabilities and were served in special education in elementary and middle school. They both are now in their thirties and are very well versed in the world of technology.
For the past five years, I have taught at the high school level. Each year, I have been assigned to teach a small group study skills class. We were able to focus on reading, writing, math, and test taking skills on a more individualized level.
I have coached high school tennis (boys & girls) for the past three years. I have played tennis for more than 40 years.
I have tutored students in writing at all grade levels, including freshmen in college.
