Piedmont College (Master's)
I have been an elementary school teacher for fourteen years. I have my master's degree in Early Childhood Education and will have my gifted endorsement in May of 2015. I have been voted teacher of the year three times for my school and one time for the county. I am considered an exemplary teacher by my colleagues, and many teachers come to my classroom to observe me in action. Our reading coach from New York was so impressed with the way I teach our Reading Mastery program that she asked me if she could video tape me for training other teachers in different parts of the United States. I love teaching common core math. Our math coach gets other instructors to come watch how far my students have come.
I believe children learn in different ways, and instructors need to find what works best for each child. Learning should be fun, hands on, and tuning in to as many of their multiple intelligences as possible. I will NOT give up! All children can learn, it's just that it takes some a little longer to get where they need to be. I am willing to teach individually or you can hire me for small groups (pay will be adjusted according to how many I will teach). I have been an elementary school teacher for fourteen years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken many classes on the common core at RESA in Athens, Georgia. Also, Marti Hutchins has trained me to teach CGI math and I have been observed by many teachers at my school.
I teach grammar through writing and mentor sentences. The best way for children to learn is through "doing". My data shows growth in all of my children by teaching this way.
As a certified teacher, our students are required to learn D' Nealian handwriting to prepare them for cursive in the upper grades.
I taught phonics for six years in first grade. Now that I am a second grade teacher, I teach Reading Mastery Spelling. A lot of the skills in Reading Mastery spelling involves phonic's rules.
I teach by using the Reading Mastery Program. However, these skills can be learned through a variety of materials. The key is: the more you read the better you will get!
I have been teaching spelling for fourteen years. This year is the first year our school has implemented Reading Mastery Spelling. It is teaching children skills to be able to spell and not just memorizing for the test. I love it!
I have been involved with our community theatre since 2002. I have been in many productions both on stage and as a stage hand.
