I have almost a decade of teaching experience. During this time, I have had the great pleasure of working with students as young as three up to the age of eighteen. I have worked in public, charter and private schools and with students of various socioeconomic backgrounds. Learning is a continuous process that I understand is lifelong. It is this point of departure that I engage my students as well as my personal studies. Analysis, critical thinking and objectivity are skills that I stress developing. Although I am very interested in the practice of drawing, painting and design, I have found that the core skills that I continue to develop in this particular subject area involves the cultivation of critical analysis, conceptual thinking, sensitive observation and objectivity. These skills can and are applied in all subjects such as mathematics, science, law, writing and medicine.
During the past four and a half years in New York, I worked in prestigious private schools teaching, art, physical education, math, writing and history. I also studied with some of the top professionals in drawing, painting, anatomy and design. My studies included in depth lab observation of human cadavers, investigation of light theory, painting theory as well as art history. It is this excellence and variety of education that has given me a well rounded education. I look forward to sharing what I have learned and continue to discover. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My particular curriculum focuses on drawing from life. fundamental principles include, study of light and shadow, perspective, relative proportions, abstraction of design, anatomy, structural principles and composition. Training involves the development of faculties in all these areas and more, the cultivation of perceptual,analytical and conceptual skills.
I teach the analytical study and application of light theory as it pertains to developing a color painting palette. The student will acquire an ability to ascertain what pigment choices to make based on the application and study of perspective, light and form principles acquired through the study of drawing.
An essential skill needed in all social interactions, my approach to public speaking involves developing a central point of focus for the student to alleviate apprehensions to speaking in front of large or small groups. The curriculum will also incorporate steady research into the subject matter to be spoken about as well as extemporaneous speech and anecdotal conversation. Over the past six years I have coached hundreds of students during my teaching time in summer leadership institutes in the state of Georgia. A large part of the curriculum involves students networking, making introductions and establishing rapport with high level executives.
Movement, steady concentration, confidence, strategy and patience are all essential skills needed to become an excellent tennis player. Training will incorporate sound footwork, volley, groundstroke, serve, service return and court awareness application and development. I worked as an assistant and lead coach in the New York Junior Tennis League during 2008-2009 season. I have also worked privately coaching students in middle school and am actively working on my USPTR certification and specialization.
