About Larissa

Bio

As a wise man once said (aka Einstein), "Everything should be made simple as possible, but not simpler," so I'm going to keep this short, sweet, and to the point!

I understand how frustrating science can be when you review and nothing seems to click. I will be patient with you and listen to where you have gaps in your understanding. Once you understand the patterns and reasons behind science, the small pieces of the bigger picture will fall into place.

But Larissa, how are you qualified to...

But Larissa, how are you qualified to tutor me? I'm glad you asked! I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Human Biology, which encompasses Calculus, Intro Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and of course, various disciplines of Biology! My cumulative GPA was a 3.72, so I knew what I was doing in these classes ;) As a recent graduate from the University of Texas at Austin, my study techniques are still fresh in my mind and I can not wait to share them with you. I led study groups in my Neuroscience class and helped my fellow students see biology as something so intuitively planned out. I also tutored at a local High School in Austin and helped a student with Geometry and basic math problems.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to message me. If you happen to live outside the travel radius, I would be more than happy to help, but I will add a small charge for travel depending on the distance.

Thanks for your consideration and I hope you will give me the chance to be your tutor!

Genetics,

Genetics

I completed Introduction to Genetics, Human Genetics, and Laboratory Experience in Genetics at the University of Texas Austin and University College London with an A grade. I recently completed Human Genetics and the Laboratory course so it is still fresh in my mind. I also completed a research paper on the implications of genetically modified organisms on humans' food supply, so I would be able to apply most lessons into something the student can relate to and thus be more engaged in.
Nutrition,

Nutrition

I completed Introduction to Nutrition, Food Science Lab, and conducted research in the Freshman Research Initiative Program Nutrition and Cancer Stream. My degree in biology also gives me a strong background in the technicalities of nutrition. I have also studied the social implications of nutrition in regards to the current high sugar and fat health crisis and the socioeconomic ties often associated with nutrition. Additionally, I worked as a Nutrition Coach with My Fit Foods, so I am aware of how to apply basic nutrition principles in settings where the general public can understand how to make more informed nutrition decisions.
Organic Chemistry,

Organic Chemistry

I completed Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 as well as the lab, so I was able to apply the lessons to hands on experience to understand the lessons better. While taking organic chemistry 2, I developed excellent study habits that took my grade from B- in organic chemistry 1 to an A for organic chemistry 2. These key study skills are necessary for success in organic chemistry and would be emphasized as I teach my students.
