About Fran

As a teacher, my sense of purpose comes from the satisfaction I encounter when passing on my expertise, encouraging people to express their creative visions and seeing the happiness and achievement in their eyes when they do. I have worked with hundreds of students from high school to adults and receive endless thanks and appreciation for helping them become more confident and comfortable with their abilities. For the past 5 years, I have been part of the Fashion Department at SCAD Atlanta, teaching Drawing, Painting and Design to students from all over the world. I have been a tutor to former students looking to perfect their portfolios and show a more professional look to prospective employers. I am adept at sketching by hand or with computers and can instruct you in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, marker rendering techniques and watercolors.

My love of the Visual Arts has been with me for as long as I remember. I fortunately attended High School with an amazing Art Department (classes in Fashion Illustration, Object Drawing, Communication Design, Textile Crafts) and so began the serious training of becoming a professional artist. Afterwards, my first choice for University was the Parsons School of Design in NYC and the only difficult part was selecting a major. After an in-depth year of Foundation studies learning Color Theory, Anatomy, Art History, and Aesthetics, I specialized in Fashion Design, winning scholarships, First Prize in the SAGA Mink Design competition and selling shoe designs. My career had begun!

Following 8 years designing and sketching in the Garment Center of New York’s Fashion Industry, I embarked on a creative journey to fulfill other artistic aspirations and moved to Paris, France where I lived for the next 25 years. Here I studied Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, Computer Aided Design Programs, Ceramics and Metalsmithing while becoming a Freelance Fashion Consultant, Designer, Illustrator, University Professor, Photojournalist and Jewelry Creator.

For over 35 years I have been an Artist, Designer and Educator and am available to assist you with any projects, research, self-expression or creative pursuits that you have. Please contact me with any questions to learn more about the process, scheduling and locations.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you attain success, accomplish goals, develop skills and enjoy your talent!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

My formal training as an artist, while beginning as young as 6 years old taking lessons, was perfected at the Parsons School of Design in NYC where I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Dean's List status. I have been a university level professor teaching Introductory and Advanced Sketching classes for 10 years at SCAD Atlanta, FIT Polimoda Florence and LISAA Paris. I am an expert at drawing the human figure and my style ranges from neo-classical realism to illustrative fashion caricatures. I have been a professional illustrator in all media (pen & ink, graphite, markers, pastels, watercolor, oils) throughout my 35 year career, both in the US and Europe. My expertise also includes still lifes, portraits, nature, scenery, perspective, chiaroscuro, gesture drawing.
