Agnes Scott College (Mathematics)
Hello there! My name is Taya W., and I enjoy helping others in what can be a pretty intimidating subject: Mathematics. I graduated from Agnes Scott College with a BA in Mathematics. In addition, I also minored in Education, so I had the chance to learn more about the craft of effective teaching skills. With this knowledge, I have had the valued opportunity of improving my teaching style through experience with various students inside and outside of the classroom.
Although I've been tutoring for currently 4 years, location has helped me to diversify my student instruction. I have served as a volunteer tutor with the Global Village Project for nearly one year; during this time, I have worked with children ages 11-15, individually and in groups, in the areas of reading and math— particularly algebra. In addition to my service as a tutor, I also assisted the children of Global Village Project with issues associated with acclimation into the new school and community. After my Global Village experience, I began working at the Andrew P. Stewart Center in the metro-Atlanta area. During my time, I helped facilitate middle-school and high-school students in math knowledge development to bring them to appropriate grade level.
Now, I'm currently working as a college mathematics supplement instructor in addition to freelance tutoring.
My areas of concentration are the following:
- Pre-Algebra & Algebra
- Geometry/ Trigonometry
- Pre-Calculus & Calculus
- Prep for SAT/ ACT Math
- Prep for GA Milestone, EOCT, GHSGT
- Math Basics/ Foundations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions & decimals)
In essence, my favorite aspect of tutoring is being able to truly assist students in their academic success regardless of a student's abilities. My belief of self-improvement surpasses weaknesses. We can truly fight the uphill battle together!
I look forward to speaking with you and help to turn your weaknesses into newfound strengths! Hello there! My son enjoyed another great session with Taya. Seems more excited about math. It is money well spent. She's our permanent tutor
My daughter has had one session with Taya and my daughter really enjoyed her tutoring session. She said Taya was nice and explained the math steps in a way she could understand. We will be scheduling more sessionso with her and I would recommend her to others.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
