Georgia State University (Middle Level Education)
Five years ago I began tutoring with the Pathways CEISMC program of Georgia Tech. During that time, I was a part-time tutor for high school students at Therrell High School and Carver High School. After some time, I realized I had fallen in love with tutoring and education and so, I began to turn this new found passion into a career. Since then, I have accrued countless hours tutoring students in homes, schools and education programs around the Atlanta Metropolitan area. In addition to private tutoring through CEISMC I have been a private tutor for The Tutor Lab as well as freelance tutoring. My tutoring experience also extends to various schools including Martin Luther King Jr. High School and an Park Street Elementary School. I have recently completed student teaching in City Schools of Decatur, specifically Decatur High School and a 4th/5th Academy. My student teaching was completed at Tucker Middle School.
In conjunction to my tutoring experiences, I have taught in after school programs including YELLS Inc. in Marietta, GA and Krayons Academy in St. Mary’s, GA. Also I have taught classes for the DREAMS program that is hosted through AmeriCorps at Georgia State University.
Presently, I am completing a degree at Georgia State University in Middle Level Education with concentrations in math and science. Also I am becoming certified in Special Education and I have a minor in Urban Education.
My passion about learning new things and sharing knowledge with others gets stronger each time I teach. My ideas and teaching strategies involve student centered learning and scaffolding students to make personal connections with whatever they’re learning. Special education is another facet of education that drives me to be a teacher. One day I hope to develop programming specifically for students in special ed. I believe that every student is capable of excelling; all they need is a little push and confidence to guide them along the way. I aspire to assist each and everyone one of my students and meet their individual and diverse needs. I look forward to working with you and your family. Laycie was a great match for my daughter who has behavioral problems and ADHD. Laycie was able to keep my daughter on task during her high school geometry lessons. My daughter was failing and ended the semester with a passing grade. Laycie was available when we needed her most and was very flexible with her schedule. We will definitely call on her again for 11th grade math!!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
