About Kara

I would love to speak with you more about your tutoring needs! My experience with students began at age 13 when I started working with younger students in my school district with homework help. Throughout school I added more students to my group and individual tutoring sessions. I then moved on to obtain my associates degree from Young Harris College. During my years at Young Harris I worked with a child with autism using applied behavioral analysis. After obtaining my degree, I moved to Kennesaw, Ga to attend Kennesaw State University. While there I worked with various student organizations to work with students both in conjunction with my classes and as outside volunteer groups. After graduating from KSU in 2012, I moved to New York. While living in New York I volunteered at local libraries and parks to work with students on homework help. I loved this experience because I could find fun ways to tie in the community and environment with my lessons which really made the lessons hit home more for my students.

When working on math lessons I tie the subject back in to everyday life. This real-life approach makes the subject more concrete with new concepts. I am a life long reader. I love to read and this has always fostered a joy for language with me. I believe that every student can be successful with reading and English with the correct approach. I tailor lessons to my students' individual needs rather than a "one size fits all" approach. I think that if that type of approach doesn't work for clothes then it certainly won't work for learning. Every student deserves to have an opinion in their education and I love to hear those opinions so that I can teach as efficiently as possible.

Please let me know if I sound like a good fit for your tutoring needs. I look forward to hearing from you about how we can work together to achieve your goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

My Early Childhood Education degree and current Ga teaching certificate make me qualified to tutor students ranging in age from kindergarten to 6th grade. I have been tutoring students for 12 years through student organizations and volunteer groups. I incorporate as many different subjects into my lessons as possible with an emphasis on the requested subject so that the tutoring is more meaningful.

Reading

I am a life-long lover of reading! Throughout my education I have led multiple reading centered tutoring groups and have sought out opportunities to work with students on their reading and vocabulary. I feel that a solid basis with both will help to advance every other subject and as a result, my tutoring approach for most subjects is reading based.
