About Angela

As a writer and editor with 35+ years experience, I believe in lots of praise with even the smallest improvement. My writing career has included winning The National Blue Ribbon Newspaper Award.

Anyone can learn to edit and write well once they learn techniques that work for them such as reading sentences backwards or reading aloud to find areas that need changes. I give suggestions but never alter someone's words, writing style or do the work for them. Creative writing is another speciality of mine along with using writing prompts to stimulate the mind. Editing is fun for me, and I can even spot grammatical and spelling errors in books, advertisements and other forms of the written word. I am very patient and it makes me happy to help others learn.

I have won awards for writing and have 35+ years experience in news writing, editing and public relations. I tailor teaching grammar, writing, editing, and spelling to the individual's learning style.

I want to fit your schedule and work around your wants, needs and level of help. I will answer any questions whatsoever. My availability includes assistance to students, small businesses, ghostwriting, etc.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

Many of my college classes included American and World History. My specialty is WWII. I have a tremendous amount of knowledge of Hitler, Stalin and Hirohito including their childhoods.

Bible Studies

I am the daughter of a minister and grew up in a Protestant church. I am educated in the wording of the scriptures as well as finding them quickly. Helping students find deeper spiritual meaning beyond the obvious is something I can help a Bible student with no matter what their age.

English

Many of my college classes centered around literature, grammar. and writing. I graduated cum laude overall and excelled in the area of English. News writing in my career frequently required book reviews based on past and present literature.

Grammar

My tutoring expertise has resulted in better confidence and grades for students. Tutoring methods that I use are reading sentences aloud, taking apart sentences, and skills assessment.

Literature

Many of my college classes centered around literature. I have studied the Greek playwrights, Chaucer, Steinbeck, Faulkner, Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe, and many other classics. I have extensive knowledge of Steinbeck.

Proofreading

My educational experience is in English and journalism. With 35+ years experience in advertising, public relations and news writing, I have taught many employees and students easy ways to proofread such as reading sentences backward or aloud. A major stepping stone to proofreading improvement is a skills assessment of the student.

Reading

I have helped instill confidence and skills improvement in students. Through the use of symbolism, flash cards, and skills assessment, reading issues have lessened.

Spelling

My B.A. is in journalism. I have worked for 35+ years in the areas of Advertising, News writing, and Public Relations. All of these professions require excellent spelling on a very tight deadline.

Vocabulary

My educational background is in journalism and English. With my 35+ years in advertising, public relations and news writing, I have had to work with employees and get approval from managers. In this capacity, I have been expected to check context including avoiding the overuse of words. With students, I have helped them in the use of a thesaurus and symbolism to learn vocabulary and definitions.

Writing

My journalism degree was awarded Cum Laude (with honor). I have a professional background in advertising, news writing, and public relations. In my career, I have helped many to spark their creativity along with using correct grammar.
