In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am an Early Childhood Education Major and will also be certified to teach middle school math. I have spent many hours in elementary schools for field experience and tutoring. I have worked with several children on standardized testing, math and reading. I thoroughly enjoy working with elementary students.
For five years I worked in a local school system for a program that was centered on study skills and college readiness. I am aware of many study techniques that have helped students in middle and high school and ultimately helped them as they moved to college. This is an area I am very passionate about.
