I have a few years of tutoring experience. I tutored one of my fellow students in high school who fell ill with Leukemia. I would drive to his house and help him with English so that he could graduate high school, and he did! I also spend a lot of my time at school helping my friends with their essays and literature homework.
I will come to you because I firmly believe that students learn better in more familiar environments because they are more comfortable. I also hold myself to high standard, so I will never charge you if you or the student isn't satisfied.
I love tutoring because it helps the student realize that anything is possible. I've seen a lot of people just give up on a subject that they don't understand, and it hurts me because I know the potential is there; it may just take a little more work to tap into it. I just love watching people succeed with a renewed vigor for learning.
My mother is an English teacher, so I've grown up with a love for reading and writing. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
