As an experienced classroom teacher, I have had the opportunity to educate more than 3,000 students over the last 26 years. My experience includes teaching middle and high school age students, as well as those at the university level. I have 2 Masters degrees in education (Foreign Language Education and Educational Leadership) and extensive travel experiences as a student. I have worked many years as a language teacher, French and Spanish, as well as a middle school language arts teacher and ESL teacher at the middle and high school levels. I have privately tutored more than 20 students and enjoy the one on one relationship, as it allows for extensive academic growth and the ability to form a closer relationship with the parents and student compared to the traditional classroom situation.
Teaching foreign languages requires me to make comparisons on a daily basis to information the students have of their own language. Because of my experience as a language teacher, I have the ability to explain concepts of languages, assess writing strengths and weaknesses and assist students in reading comprehension strategies. I am an avid reader and a life long learner. With the advanced degrees, it has required me to take multiple standardized tests, in order to pursue each of the Master degrees.
I have tutored SAT prep in the past. I am able to understand and explain advanced math skills, as well as vocabulary and reading skills that would improve students' test scores.
My experience in a traditional classroom and as a private tutor allows for me to make connections with students and their families and develop positive relationships to ensure optimal academic growth. As a parent of 3 academically successful children (2 in high school and a pre-med university student), I have developed strategies and teaching techniques that help in the delivery of instruction and can meet the academic needs of multiple learning styles. I am hoping that I will be able to assist you and/or your child in your academic pursuits. Maria was a super positive and knowledgeable tutor for my daughter. She knew how to help her with correct pronunciation of phrases and totally understood what we needed. She is awesome!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught French in the middle and high school setting over the last 27 years. I also taught French at the university level (St Leo University, St Leo, Fl.) for 3 semesters. I have my MA in Foreign Language Education (focus on French).
For French, I have a Masters degree in Foreign Language Education (focus on French), which require me taking 6 grad level French classes. I have taken a minimum of 10 undergrad classes in French, which included me studying in France for a semester. I have also taken the French subject area exams in Florida and Georgia, passing both times, which allowed me to teach French for more than 20 years.
I have 2 Master's degrees (Foreign Language Education and Educational Leadership). My experience includes speaking only French to my own children (now 15, 16 and 20). I love working with all age groups and find individual tutoring rewarding as it allows the student to grow and advance at a much faster rate than traditional classes.
