Welch College, Nashville, TN (Elementary Education)
I have a lifelong passion for helping children learn and reach their full potential. In 1983, I graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Elementary Education, and I have spent the years since teaching at the grade school, high school, and college level. As an elementary teacher for over twenty years, I recognize the need for teaching strong, phonics-based reading skills, foundational study habits, and memorization techniques. I also work hard to implement an exciting, fun approach to education. For the last eight years, I have operated a homeschool co-op, where I have worked closely with each student, helping children and teenagers (some with special needs) to better understand their class work and excel in each area of study. I enjoy working with children and teens in and out of the classroom; for the last thirty-five years, I have also been heavily involved in Children's Ministries at the local churches I have attended. I look forward to helping your child discover the joy of learning!

My daughter is in first grade and just wasn't at the reading level she needed to be. We were having a very difficult time getting her to read with us at home so we decided to look for a tutor. We're so thankful a quick Google search led us to Ginger! I couldn't be more pleased with the progress my daughter has made so far. After only 5 sessions with Ginger she is already moving up a reading level at school. Most importantly, she really enjoys her tutoring sessions and this has translated into her actually wanting to read at home. I NEVER thought that would happen at the beginning of the school year! We are already planning to have our younger son go to Ginger before he starts kindergarten so he will start school on a stronger footing.
My daughter has been tutoring with Ginger for a year and we couldn't be happier. She has given our daughter confidence and we've seen a significant improvement in her grades. We are so blessed to have found her.
Working with my 7 year old on concepts she missed in kindergarten due to a terrible year. She assessed her this week and feels it will not take long to help her at all. We have worried about how far she is behind for a year. Super excited to see where she takes her in the weeks to come!
Ginger was AMAZING!! My 7 year old LOVED his time with her and called it FUN! She educated him with reading and everything associated with that.. He struggles with reading and spelling and she gave us a great book to help and tips to help him with spelling. I definitely would refer her to any child!
Very attentive and really conveys her objectives to help Sean succeed. I think the tools she has identified are very suitable. I love that they are God based.
My seven year old son's handwriting was illegible. Because of this, he was scoring very low on some of his school assignments. Sometimes the answers weren't wrong; you just couldn't read them. He started lessons with Mrs. Ginger, and his hand writing improved in just a few short weeks. Last week, his teacher told me that he had written his best story ever! I highly recommend Mrs. Ginger, and my son thinks she is very nice too!
Ginger has been working with my 7 year old son who has been struggling with reading and phonics. He recently passed his first spelling test of the year. We are very fortunate to have her tutor our child and would recommend her highly!
I really thank you that I found a wonderful teacher like Mrs. Ginger. She is a wonderful teacher and patient for my kids. She likes to explain all the detail that my kids need to do for writing and reading too. My kids love her and are really excited to meet her. I saw a lot improving for my kids writing skill and creative and put more detail when they wrote stories or sentences. I will continue lessons with Mrs. Ginger.
Ms. Ginger was able to pick up quickly that my daughter is very sensitive. She was very encouraging and made it fun for her. She was also quick to notice my 1st grader had memorized her "fluency" book sent home from the school. Something I had wondered about. I think she is going to be an excellent help to my 1st grader and help her build her confidence and overcome her dyslexia!
We have seen a huge improvement in our daughter's reading ability and confidence since she started with Ginger only 2 months ago!
In less than a year, Ginger had made a HUGE difference in my daughter's reading a ability. It was a slow start, but she is reading things I wasn't sure she would ever be able to read!
Ms. Ginger is a phenomenal tutor. She has been working with my son for about 5 months. When he first started his lessons with Ms. Ginger he was not very excited to go to a tutor for help with school. Since that time and with a lot of patience from Ms. Ginger; he has started to enjoy his lessons. His penmanship and spelling have increased tremendously and his reading comprehension has grown as well due to her review of basic phonics and grammar rules. He has come a long way in the 5 months that he has been working with Ms. Ginger, and I would highly recommend her as a tutor. She is very patient and works with her students to find the ways that they individually learn. I am so grateful that we found her.
Ginger is a very thorough tutor. She listens and values the parents concerns. I am very glad to have found her.
Ginger is absolutely wonderful to work with. She has been working with our son following poor results on admission testing. After just a few sessions with Ginger, our son improved his score so significantly he was accepted into school. Ginger is incredibly patient. We have seen great improvements in our son's ability and even more important his self-confidence. Her constant encouragement and positive reinforcement along with skills building is a great combination that produced results. We will continue to work with her over the summer before school starts. I would highly recommend Ginger.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a degree in elementary education and over 25 years of experience teaching on this level. I look forward to working with your student.
Phonics is the teaching of reading through a systematic application of the sounds that letters make and the combination of those letters to make words. Phonics is a basic tool to teach reading in a orderly and reasonable manner.
I have a degree in elementary education and have taught phonics for thirty years. I have taught on the elementary level and have taught teaching reading on the college level with a concentration in phonics. I have developed a phonics-based curriculum.
I have been teaching and tutoring for over thirty years in a broad scope of subjects. Study skills are methodical skills that I model and help the student apply to specific subject content and type, such as homework, projects, or test preparation. Before a student can properly study, they need to understand the subject content. I first assess the student's knowledge of the content, and then I teach the subject content and give opportunity for application and reinforcement. After subject content is learned, study skills are taught, modeled, and applied.
I have taught children's music for thirty years, including directing children's choirs and musical productions. I have taught basic music theory in the choirs I have directed and taught a class on teaching elementary music on the college level. I have traveled in music groups across the country and have had voice training on the college level. I work with children and teens in developing vocal skills and techniques to attain quality sound and ease of production. I love music, along with my family. My husband majored in voice in college and my daughter majored in piano. Music plays a great role in our family.
