I hold a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education and am certified to teach Pre-K - 5th grade. I have taught in public and private schools for 16 years. Most of my years teaching were spent in Cobb County schools in Marietta, GA, where I experienced a diversity of socioeconomic make-ups as well as teaching models. My most current position was at a small, private Christian school, where I taught 8 students on a one-to-one basis. It is my pleasure to offer this type of personalized and meaningful instruction as your child’s online tutor.

I believe it is my duty as an educator to instill a passion for learning which will prepare my students to be productive and contributing members of society. I enjoy providing a stimulating, project-based curriculum, which encourages each child to explore ideas, make real-life connections, and excel to their fullest potential. My role, as their guide, is to recognize each, unique child’s interests, individual needs and learning style, while offering them a nurturing environment in which they can blossom and grow.

I am currently certified by the State of Georgia to teach Pre K – 5th Grade. My qualifications in Elementary Education include a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education and sixteen years of experience in Kindergarten through Third Grade. During the time when I was a stay-at-home mom, I began tutoring within my home. Students looked forward to these sessions and parents were extremely satisfied with and grateful for my help. I am able to quickly connect with students and develop a good rapport, based on mutual respect. My enthusiastic approach to teaching allows students have fun while learning, which promotes and instills a passion for knowledge.

With sixteen years' experience in public and private schools, I have used two of the most popular phonics series which are Saxon and Open Court Phonics. Additionally, students love the phonics puppet shows I perform, which enable them to apply what they have learned.

Developing good study habits is a journey of training oneself to think methodically. As an educator, I strive to encourage students to take an active role in their learning by memorizing, reciting, mapping and organizing the information. Once the student understands these strategies, they must learn which cognitive tools to utilize for the given task. For example, basic addition or subtraction facts would call for rote memorization, acquired from manipulating the math facts, then reciting them. Another strategy might be using a simple mnemonic like applying the math facts to a familiar song to help in retention of this information. There are many brain tricks the student can learn to build their knowledge base.

I hold a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education and am certified to teach Pre K - 5th grade. When introduced to my hands-on approach to learning, students are interested and focused on the tasks I provide. After years of teaching, I am well aware of the many strategies, which provide optimal learning for those with ADHD. During my sessions with students who have ADHD, I look for ways for them to move around while they learn, offering opportunities for them to use manipulatives. It often helps to break lessons into segments that are thought provoking to help students attend.
