As a student in high school, other students would seek my help in all different subjects. They would often comment on how I would make a good teacher. My thoughts usually would sound more like, "NO!!! I never want to be a teacher!"; It's not that I didn't like teaching, I just didn't like trying to tutor a big group of people at one time. Whole group learning involves many other faucets besides just helping someone learn. This is why I love being a tutor of only one or two people at a time. It gives me the chance to work with the individual needs of a student and to relate concepts to those things that interest that student.
Although I've never been employed as a tutor, I've always helped friends and classmates through high school, then later on in college. I earned both my BS and MS in Biology at Georgia Southern University. While completing my education I took courses in botany, wildlife biology, environmental biology, genetics, mammology, and ornithology. I am currently employed as a high school science teacher. I have taught both Biology and Physical Science. I feel this gives me a wide range of science subjects that I am qualified to tutor. I am also working on my PhD in Post-Secondary and Adult Education, in the hopes that I will be able to obtain a position at a technical college or four-year university in the near future.
I look forward to helping you reach your education goals! As a student in high school, other students would seek my help in all different subjects. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught high school science for six years. I also have two daughters in the Elementary grade levels. I tutor my girls with their homework and have aspirations of homeschooling them during middle school. I have several friends who are elementary level teachers that I can rely on for support and resources should the need come up during tutoring.
I have taught 9th grade science for six years now. Much of my students' success revolves are have the appropriate study skills to manage their time between schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and personal activities. I also coach the high school cheerleading squad. One major component of our practice days is a one hour study session, where I am available to assist the girls with homework and to teach them how appropriate study skill techniques.
