There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student surpass their goals. Participating and coaching students through this process is my passion whether it be in English, reading, writing, art, college applications, portfolio preparation, or with general computer skills. I will help you reach your learning goals with custom tailored curriculum, individualized instruction and engaging learning activities!

My strengths are in creating custom-tailored methods and strategies to meet the needs and goals of my students without compromising the learning goals. I do this by finding creative and engaging learning activities for my students. To help my students engage in lessons, I investigate their personal interests and goals, then find ways to tie it into the lessons.

I received a Master's in Education from Lesley University's Creative Arts in Learning graduate school and have more than 11 years of teaching experience. I've worked with students of all ages, from toddlers to young adults to retirees. At the high school level I've taught art, have served as an advisor, and supported students with written assignments, presentations, computer skills, and college applications. I have led district-wide professional development workshops for teachers and also have years of experience of teaching English Language Learners (ESL, ESOL). I taught art with a multicultural education focus to English Language Learners in a public high school in the Greater Boston area. I recently moved to Georgia and will only teach part-time so that I have more time to dedicated to my own art making, exploring new opportunities, and managing a healthy work/life balance.

My specialties include teaching drawing, painting, digital art, computer skills, English Language Learners (ELL, ESL, ESOL), and good study skills/habits. Even though my content specialty is in art, I am familiar with the National Common Core English Language Arts learning objectives as I included them in all of my art units at my previous school. Some of the reading/writing activities I use include using the Frayer Model, identifying Tier 1/2/3 vocabulary, graphic organizers, word banks, and writing prompts. I know methods that work amazingly well not only for ELL students but English speakers too! I have developed an effective lesson structure for my adult ELL students who wish to improve their English vocabulary and conversation skills.

In art I have taught drawing (graphite, ink, pastel, oil pastels), painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor), drawing/painting from life (still life, portraiture), sculpture, bookmaking, scratch art, mixed media, color theory, and art history. I have also taught digital art courses covering Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and graphic design. I've taught high school students and adults general computer skills and am proficient in teaching students how to use Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Apple Pages, Keynote, and how to prepare and plan for a presentation. I have also helped many students with college applications and essays, scholarship research and applications, study skills, and goal setting. I also have work experience with financial tools like QuickBooks, YNAB and website/blog tools like SquareSpace.

I am currently on maternity leave and am not scheduling regular lessons until spring/summer 2018. However please feel free to contact me if you are interested in scheduling just a few lessons and/or only wish to learn a specific skill (ex. removing backgrounds in Ps, creating slideshows, presentation practice, importing photos into your computer, etc.).

Thanks and best of luck!

Tutor who gets it

Erika was an excellent instructor on how to use my Apple products. I think most tutors want to do the job for you, making the adjustments themselves. Erika wanted me to learn how to use my devices. She was patient with my mistakes and fun to work with.
