Bio

Teaching is my second career. My first was as a professional photographer who wanted kids to smile. Although I have now been teaching for 13 years, I still make kids smile when they learn to read.

Reading has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I believe that it is extremely important to link assessment to instruction, so there is a map to follow, on the road to success. It may take time to reach a destination; but with dedication and determination my goal is to assist students...

It may take time to reach a destination; but with dedication and determination my goal is to assist students to become more proficient readers and writers.

For my Education Doctorate in Reading and Literacy, I have written a curriculum guide that reflects the importance of linking assessment to instruction.

Currently, I am in the editing phase. I have taken over 70 hours of reading courses and I am confident that anyone can read if the proper methodology is used. I have been working with students with disabilities my entire career and have coached many non- readers to read. I have both researched and had training with multiple reading programs, methodologies, and strategies, such as Orton Gillingham, RAVE-O, Language!, and Failure Free Reading ( for people with phonological processing disorders). I also am adept at teaching students how to comprehend what they have read. The key is to find the correct program through assessment, to enable students to experience success in school and in society.
