Hi, my name is Donna D. and I have been teaching 3rd grade this school year in Memphis. Before teaching in Memphis, I was employed by Metro Nashville Public Schools and completed 3 long-term interim assignments, as well as 11 years of substitute teaching experience. I just recently relocated to GA and am excited to get back into teaching, via either the classroom and/or tutoring. I love teaching kids as it is my passion in life. I would also enjoy tutoring as well because it gives you flexibility in working hours, but most importantly, you gain a wealth of experience with a diverse group of students and age ranges. I thoroughly enjoy working one-on-one with kids because they can learn so much more in a shorter period of time.
I have two grown children and three grandchildren. I also have a a small dog named Juno and she keeps me quite busy as well. I live on a farm in a rural town of Fairmount, GA. We have animals everywhere, such a peaceful place to live.
I look forward to working with you wonderful young people who are striving to learn more and more and be successful in our globalized society. I look forward to the wonderful things we can learn, do together, and grow to achieve academic excellence and success. I always tell my students "Reach for the moon, for somewhere you will land amongst the stars". If you have your priorities and goals aimed high and work to achieve them, you will be a success no matter where you go in life. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I feel I am highly qualified to teach in the area of Bible Studies. I hold a Minor in Bible from my university which was a private Christian university. Also, I have competed in high school in a Bible Memory outline and placed 1st in district, 1st in state, and 3rd in Nationals. Also, I placed 1st in State in taking a test on the book of Galatians. Also, in my private university we were required to take Old Testament and New Testament Survey, which I received an A in. We were required, as part of our course, to read the Bible, all 66 books.
I hold a B.S. degree in Elementary Education with a grades 1-8 endorsement. I have 17 years of experience in these grade levels. I have held several long-term interim positions in grades 1, 2, 3, and 6th (3rd grade being full-time).
I have 16 years of teaching experience. Having taught Grades 1=3 for most of my years of teaching, I believe the basic foundations of phonics have been primarily in these years. I recently spent almost a year teaching phonics in 3rd grade, a very difficult year in elementary school for children. Phonics is a must in the early childhood years and I feel I have adequate experience to teach this subject.
