I am a recent recipient of a MA in English from the University of West Georgia. I was a graduate research assistant for three years while in the program. As a GRA I conducted research for adjunct professors' various projects. In addition to those duties, I tutored in the university's writing center. My position in the writing center allowed me to assist students from numerous disciplines, backgrounds, and ages. The help I provided was not limited to English/literature courses. The ability to communicate in an effective and proper manner is tied to all academic pursuit, which is why chose to make it my life's focus.

I learned within my first few days at the writing center that it is not a lack of ability that produces a need for additional assistance, but, rather, a desire for assistance to channel the ability of a particular student. Some individuals desire to be the best at a given task while others, simply, don't want to be near the bottom of the heap. My goal as a tutor is to enable the individual who seeks my help to discover what s/he wants to achieve and facilate that desire.
I am committed to the pursuit of wisdom through the acquisition of knowledge. To witness this passion in others drives my desire to learn, share, create, and enjoy this world and all it has to offer its inhabitants.
There were many who helped and who still help me. Now, I would appreciate the opportunity to redistribute the gifts I received. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a recent graduate of the English M.A. program at the University of West Georgia. While in the program, I attended several in and out state conferences where I presented arguments to faculty and students from other institutions. All arguments were based on research, which supported a proposed thesis. Each presentation consisted of a ten to fifteen minute oratory.
I spent my last semester reading for the oral exam to exit the MA program in English at the University of West Georgia. I gained a variety of techniques to utilize in reading comprehension and retention that may prove advantageous to your daughter.
