About Stephanie

I graduated from the University of West Georgia in April 2012. I have background experience working with students in Pre-K through 5th grade. I am a certified teacher in general and special education. I have taught Special Ed for grades K-5 for the last two years. I love to learn and continue learning on a daily basis. While I am certified P-5, I have experience tutoring various ages and subjects. I also love to read, write poems, photography, scrapbooking, crafting, and spending time with my son. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified P-5 teacher in the state of Georgia.

Elementary Math

As part of my education to become a certified P-5 teacher, I worked on math case studies to help struggling students of different grade levels. I also interned for 5 months in a 5th grade mathematics class.

Elementary Science

I student taught in grade levels P-5 as part of my degree requirements and have taught extensive lessons in science. I have also had three courses geared directly towards science in elementary grades.

Grammar

I attended two courses geared toward reading, comprehesion, phonics, and grammar in elementary grades.

Microsoft Publisher

I have taken several computer classes in high school and college where I used Microsoft Publisher. I have also produced numerous files including: invitations, flyers, brochures, worksheets, banners, cards, and more.

Phonics

As a P-5 certified teacher I have worked in a reading clinic to help struggling students develop and strenghten their reading through many techniques including the use of phonics. I have developed phonics based games and activities. During my time in the clinic, I also implemented a progress monitoring system for students who struggle with phonics. During my schooling, I took a course based soley on developing reading using phonics as the basis and was required to pass a phonics knowledge exam.

Reading

I have taught special education in grades k-5 since August 2013. During my schooling, I interned in a reading clinic for a semester. I was able to work with struggling students to develop and strengthen their reading skills. I also interned in a fifth grade reading/ELA class and developed a method of tracking data and progress for all students.

Spelling

I have used and developed many activities to help with spelling. I have taught students how to use phonics to decipher the spelling as well as drilled with students for weekly spelling and vocabulary tests.

Vocabulary

I have developed and implemented many games and activities for use in developing vocabulary. I have helped students with vocabulary simply on school required weekly vocabulary assigments. I have also worked with students of various ages and abilities to develop a richer vocabulary base or vocabulary within a specific subject/topic as needed.
