I am a retired art teacher from Ohio. I taught for 17 years and decided to move south to warmer weather. I've taught kindergarten through 12th grade, both in private and public schools. My specialty is art, but I also have my Master's Degree in the Science of Education. I consider myself very capable of teaching any subject with the exception of math, especially "new math".
I believe that everyone is capable of learning, period! It's just that we all have different learning styles and a crowded classroom doesn't allow the teacher much room for addressing every learning style with every lesson taught, it just isn't practical! I love tutoring because the one on one aspect allows me to discover the individuals learning style and then teach them based on the best way that they learn.
I am a voracious reader...I love to read. I also taught my son to read by the time he was 3 years old. I believe that reading is difficult for some because emphasis is not put on the importance of understanding what is read.
My minor for my Bachelor' Degree was Art History which I believe only added to my knowledge of American History.
I have my Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art. My Master's Degree included 16 courses of studio ceramics and I taught Art for 17 years. I am also an accomplished artist, excelling in drawing, painting and ceramics.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
