I have always loved music and teaching just came naturally. In my opinion, music is a part of everyone that needs to be expressed. It should be fun and rewarding, yet teaching life lessons such as diligence, time-management, and confidence. My specialty is classical music, but I am able to teach many different genres of music. I feel that classical music is an essential part of learning an instrument and I require my students to learn a few classical pieces. However, I love when a student gets excited over a piece of music and I encourage them to learn different genres that they are interested in whether it be jazz, contemporary, or Broadway music.
I teach in hour increments for lessons, and urge my students to practice at least a half hour every day for three-five days. I feel that in order to progress in anything, my students must be willing to put in the work. However, it is best to do this in such a way that you don't come to hate the instrument. Music is a fun expression of yourself and therefore you must take the time to work at it and enjoy what talents you have.
I have been studying both piano and violin since I was seven years old. During that time, I have had the opportunity to play first violin with the Erie Junior Phil Harmonic and also in their various string ensembles. I performed and studied with them for seven years, four of those spent in the main orchestra. I performed violin alongside the Erie Phil Harmonic three separate times, and also the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony. I have also performed violin in the district and regional orchestra for two years and played in the pit orchestra for community theater. I have accompanied on the piano for several choirs, including a local high school and two churches where I was employed as Director of Music. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have studied Piano for 14 years with a background in classical music. I worked as the Director of Music at two prominent churches where I accompanied the congregation and choir on the piano. I have been teaching piano for two years using ideas from the Alfred Method. However, I do not solely teach this method alone and am flexible in using different methods if needed by my students.
I have been studying violin for 14 years and was trained classically and soon fell in love with all things classical. During my junior and senior years I was given the opportunity to play with the Erie Junior Philharmonic (EJP).
