Dear Students, I am an experienced high school math and science teacher with a heartfelt desire to assist you in becoming a better student. In brief, I taught high school math and physical science for 5 years in a private Christian school in Honduras. While working as a teacher, I tutored numerous students after school and on Saturdays and continue to tutor students on a regular basis now. My students uniformly do better because they have one-on-one opportunities to understand what they are doing wrong and to make adjustments in their thinking before testing. My basic method is to have them identify the types of problems that are giving them difficulty and watch while they work a sample problem. As they do each step, I observe their work and if they do something wrong, I stop them and ask them to explain why they did what they did. This helps them to correct their thinking. Sometimes I simply work a few of the problems and let the student observe. Then I watch as they do the assignment and guide them as necessary. I let the student choose any method that helps them the most based on their own learning style. With me, the student basically sets the agenda and I help them achieve their goals.
I have always loved to see students really understand the material so I devote lots of preparation time to make that happen to the greatest degree possible. You will find me to be patient, encouraging, passionate about my work, organized, and ready on day 1 to help you become successful. Here are some other items of information that you may like to know: 1. I am an honor graduate with a BS in math from Auburn University, 2. I taught naval engineering 2 years at Duke University, 3. I am a graduate of the Navy's nuclear power and electronics schools, and 4. I also graduated from Florida State University College of Law with honors. I would welcome an opportunity to help you become a better student and hope you will give me that chance. Mr. Jim is an excellent tutor. He takes the time to make sure that I understand what I am doing! Since being tutored by Mr. Jim I received my first 100 on my advance math test. I could not have completed this goal without him!

I do not really have a lot of to write except to say that Jim D is an excellent tutor who obviously has a many years of experience teaching because he has a very calm demeanor and he has a lot of patience when explaining the problems that we are working on during our sessions. I find both of these traits very admirable in a math mentor.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked many math problems from ACT practice tests in order to sharpen my skills in this area. I have solutions to these which I will share with you. I will help you improve your math thinking skills so that you do your best on this test.

I am a Navy veteran who took this same test years ago. I have a solid knowledge of math and science acquired from years of teaching physical science and high school math. I also attended nuclear power school and naval electronics schools. While in the Navy, I managed combat systems and electronic warfare assets. I can help you do your best on this test.
I have taught the Bible in Sunday School for about 10 years. In addition, I served as a missionary teacher in Honduras for 8 years during which time I regularly prepared sermons and lessons on the Bible. I also have completed 4 seminary courses and taught Old Testament in my church's Bible College.
I taught chemistry for five and one-half years. I expected my students to master all types of problems in the entire chemistry book so I meticulously taught them every type. As a group, my students averaged a B minus overall which is good for a difficult subject like this one. I also took chemistry classes in high school, in the Navy, and in college. I understand this material very well.
I am able to connect with all age levels of students. I work hard to understand each child and use my understanding to design ways to build relationships with each individual. I never criticize a student for making a mistake; I do work to help them understand why they made the mistake and how to correct it. I try particularly hard not to come across as being critical with this age group. I just try to convince them that I will be there to help them understand math. I have an excellent understanding in all math topics.

I have spent my entire life reading books that are considered to be the classics of the English language and the Christian faith. This has enhanced greatly my understanding of what authors are trying to communicate to the reader. I continue to read articles on current events, the Bible, poetry, essays, and history. My experience as a lawyer also required that I be able to read and distill the essentials of court cases, legislative histories, and law review articles.

I enjoy it greatly and can help you learn it. I have a BS in math and a command of all the concepts relative to trigonometry.
During my life, I have read hundreds of books and many current events articles. If I encounter a word whose meaning I don't know, I generally look up its meaning and try to incorporate it into my speech and writing. I have also studied Latin, French, and Spanish. Many of the words in these languages bear a resemblance to their English counterparts. So, knowing other languages has helped me know more English words. I have also employed my knowledge of words into my own writings.
