In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
When working with children with ADD/ADHD, all lessons will be presented in small segments with a lot of interaction in order to maximize the child's attention span. Activities and lessons will incorporate movement and strategies appropriate for keeping the child's attention. Your child will learn how to organize their thoughts and ideas, as well as their materials in order to be successful. I have spent the past twelve years working with ADD/ADHD children helping them focus their efforts on their academic classes and improving their grades. I have worked as an afterschool tutor for over 17 years in various settings from recreational to educational that involved ADD/ADHD students.

All lessons will include some hands-on activities and practice activities to help improve your child's skill levels. Math assignments will start with a review, then go into the lesson of the day and cover new material and then the student will practice with assistance the problems before being given any problems to work alone. Social Studies and Science require a lot of reading and will be broken down into small manageable chunks for the student to work with in order to under the material and find answers.
