Mercer University (Master's)
I am retired military and have a wealth of computer knowledge. During my service I did 4 and a half years as a technical instructor. I have a good understanding of assessing student ability and I am very good at relating complex computer topics in down to earth terms.
I am passionate about my field and want to pass on as much information as I can. I am also not afraid of my week areas because I have resources that I can tap into to find the needed answers to get you the information you need. I am flexible with my schedule, friendly and want to make leaning interesting and fun.
I completed my Masters Degree at Mercer using C# as my primary language. I have been programming professionally for 5 yeas and have a good understanding of both front end (application) and back end (databases) of a system. I am also skilled at all of the office programs and can make you more productive at them.
My favorite thing about teaching is when the student has gasped the concept and you can see the understanding in their face. I also love the feeling of helping someone who has the weight of the world on their shoulders because they don't understand something and then lifting it for them with knowledge. I was having problems with a Programming class named processing. Les did everything he could to help me and make me understand the information. I would highly recommend him to anyone. Thanks to him, my grades in my class got higher!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been programming for 24 years. For my first 15 years I was programming more as a hobby while earning my computer science degree. This was because I was active duty military and my job had nothing to do with writing software. When I retired from the military I became a career programming and have been focusing on it ever since.
I have a great foundation in programming concepts. This allows me to move from language to language easily. I main language when I was learning to program was basic, visual basic, pascal, C, and C++. I started out using top down programming concepts and then moved onto Object based style. I also transitioned from desktop applications to web based programming. I am now fully versed in Microsoft C# and I am building myself up as a Java developer.
I also have a Master’s Degree in Software Systems (Software Engineering). I took a total of 10 classes focusing on Object based development. Each class had a team project and required a fully documented report of the program developed, the methods used, how it works, and what was learned from it. I scored a 95/100 average on all of my classes and always presented detailed reports.
I also have a passion for teaching and showing people how programming works. While I was stationed in Florida (2004-2007) I helped out a neighbor with his programming classes. In his C++ class I tutored 5 students in a class room type of environment so they could all benefit from someone who already knew how to program. They all passed the class with A’s…
