About Jack

As a private tutor for the past 20 years, I have helped countless private, public, home school, and college students make outstanding progress! I've tutored students in elementary school through college, and beyond! Most recently, I've begun working at North Georgia Technical College working with upper level math, English, and pharmacology students. Helping students succeed is what I love to do, and I believe each and every student can be successful!

Students truly enjoy working with me, as I am able to help each understand, sometimes for the first time math and science: My specialty is math: elementary and middle school math, pre-algebra, algebra I and II, geometry, pre-calculus, trigonometry, math for college readiness, statistics, intermediate and college algebra, college pre-calculus, college trigonometry, and college statistics. Another true specialty area for me is the TEAS. With my Masters Degree in Sports Medicine and a minor in Emergency Medicine, it's a perfect fit with my TEAS students who need a strong math and science background. My degree in Sports Medicine also allows me to teach human science courses like anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, biology, first aid & CPR, EMT coursework, and the care and prevention of athletic injuries. In addition, I have helped countless students prepare for an alphabet of standardized tests which include: ACT, ASVAB, CJBAT, CLAST, CPT, FCAT, GED, GRE, ISEE, NET, PERT, SAT, HESI, and the new TEAS VI test.

My students often comment I am patient, encouraging, and able to explain the same things their teacher does in a way they finally understand. I strive to discover how each student learns best! This allows me to tailor each lesson to the specific needs of every student. I have tutored gifted students, regular education students who need study skills, test prep and homework help, college students and students with learning challenges.

If you or your student are struggling, I would be glad to complete a skills assessment to identify areas of challenge. When a student struggles, he or she may have underlying skills which need review. It's helpful to identify how students learn best because not all students learn in the same way. One-on-one tutoring is a great resource for students who want to move ahead, work at their own pace, or fill in the gaps. Proven experience truly counts and I will help to make a real difference for you or your student!

Thank you for reading my profile. I am always glad to answer any questions you may have and I hope to hear from you soon!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I first began tutoring upper level math including ACT Prep over 20 years ago. As a certified experienced math teacher, I have helped countless students not only succeed, but excel with their ACT Math. Students preparing for the ACT need additional review and personalized practice presented in a patient and encouraging manner to be successful on the test. I am able to meet my math students where they are skill-wise and help each become much more successful. Many students often tell me, "I wish you were my math teacher," which is one of the greatest compliments I can receive because I know I have not only made a connection with my student but helped my students understand math and become better prepared to succeed on their test!

Algebra 1

Algebra is both a fascinating and sometimes confusing math course. To do well, a student needs mastery of underlying PreAlgebra skills. I have years of experience working with students in all areas of algebra and all the basic support skills. In addition, I am certified grades 6-12 in math to work with students.

Algebra 2

Algebra requires a multitude of skills and I have over 20 years of experience helping students understand and master Algebra. As a certified, experienced math teacher, I have helped countless students not only succeed, but truly master math. Often I find, students need additional review and practice presented in a patient and encouraging manner, or they need regular help with homework or test prep. No matter what the skill or learning challenge I am able to meet my math students where they are and help each become much more successful. Students often tell me, "I wish you were my math teacher!" This is one of the greatest compliments I can receive because I know I have not only made a connection with my students but helped my students understand Algebra!

Geometry

As a professional tutor for the past 20 years, and a certified math teacher, I have helped countless students better understand the subject of geometry. Geometry is unlike the Algebra and Algebra 2 classes most students take. This can be good for some, but can pose problems for others. Having a guide along the way who knows that path to success is invaluable.

Prealgebra

I first began tutoring upper level math including Pre-Algebra over 20 years ago. As a certified experienced math teacher, I have helped countless students not only succeed, but excel with math. Sometimes, students need additional review and practice presented in a patient and encouraging manner, or they need regular help with homework or test prep. I am able to meet my math students where they are and help each become much more successful. Students often tell me, "I wish you were my math teacher," which is one of the greatest compliments I can receive because I know I have not only made a connection with my student but helped my students understand math!

Precalculus

I first began tutoring upper level math including Pre-Calculus over 20 years ago. As a certified experienced math teacher, I have helped countless students not only succeed, but excel with math. Sometimes, students need additional review and practice presented in a patient and encouraging manner, or they need regular help with homework or test prep. Students often tell me, "I wish you were my math teacher," which is one of the greatest compliments I can receive because I know I have not only made a connection with my student but helped my students understand math!

SAT Math

I first began tutoring upper level math including SAT Prep over 20 years ago. As a certified experienced math teacher, I have helped countless students not only succeed, but excel on their SAT. TEAS

As an professional tutor for the last 18 years, I have worked with students across the spectrum in a variety of test prep areas, including the TEAS. My Master's degree in Sports Medicine along with my experience as an Emergency Medical Technician allows me to provide much more detailed insight into the specific types of questions on the test. In my experience, I have found some test prep materials offered for the TEAS do not adequately prepare the test taker for the exam. Often, the test prep materials are watered down to the point of creating a false sense of security about the test taker's skill level. In having worked with many TEAS students, my medical background combined with my educational experience and certification has allowed me to identify the components needed for successful test taking. These include a reasonable time frame for improving skills, individualized instruction and periodic skill assessment and review.

The TEAS test is used as a tool to measure a prospective nursing student’s skills. The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is useful in predicting an individual’s chances of success in nursing school and identifies which applicants may need additional practice and review before entering a program. The test is scored in four areas, English, math, language and science, and contains 13 sub content areas. The test has a total of 170 questions and uses an objective format. There is a math portion of the TEAS and calculators cannot be used. Once the test is administered, results are usually available within 48 hours. Practice test are available to prospective students. In addition, there are study materials/manuals for extra review.

Trigonometry

I first began tutoring college level Trigonometry and college and high school/college level Algebra over 20 years ago. So, my math expertise is broad based. Although I am a certified, experienced math teacher, I am much more than your typical tutor or teacher because my students often tell me, "I wish you were my math teacher!" This is one of the greatest compliments I can receive because I know I have helped students not only succeed, but excel with math. Sometimes, students need additional review and practice presented in a patient and encouraging manner, or they need regular support with homework or test prep. I am able to meet my Trigonometry students where they are and help each become much more successful with upper level math.

Extremely helpful and caring science TEAS tutor

So Jack and his wife Ann S. are the best tutors in the world. I had lost all motivation that I would pass the TEAS test when I took it the first time and made a 74% and failing both the English and Science section with a 53% and 63% respectively. I had 5 weeks after I came home from Europe to improve my grade and happy to my school. I wanted it to be in person but found no one in my area. I then c
